Attached at the Hip - Literally !

OK - So once again I turn to the Forum for some sage advice.. this time Baxter is quite literally attaching himself at my hip... I can't go anywhere at the moment without my shadow. Now this is fabulous if I'm not doing housework or attempting to get ready to go to work... Nothing I've tried seems to distract him at all ! The only time he will settle down is when I sit on the lounge and relax - and we all know that that little luxury is a rare occasion when there's the obligatory housework, shopping and work to do !!! The mornings are just the worst time of all.... Any advice will be gratefully accepted !

That velcro strip is what makes a sheepie a sheepie  so one just has to learn to live with it
Welcome to the world of the ever-present Sheepdog Shadow, a.k.a Velcro Dog. Oscar follows me everywhere, as did our previous OES, Quincy, and I think you'll find this behavior is quite common for our breed.
They just like to know where their "peeps" are at all times. :)

Really ... I think you're just gonna have to get used to it. :D

Mine hate being left out of the bathroom despite how horrific it can get in there.
Reckon everybody is sooo correct - although my other Sheepie never really did this..... And he soooo loves coming into the shower as well.... He's learnt how to swipe aside the shower curtain which results in one very wet head ! Pretty funny really....
I daresay I'll just have to get a little more used to it..... Washing the floor in shifts etc..... Oh the joys of owning these gorgeous puppies ! Thanks all !!!!

Yep, I have to physically gait them to keep them out of my work areas - sweeping, mopping, etc.

Our bathroom door has a faulty latch, so no privacy for anyone.
Aren't they great, I've always wanted one :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
Yeah this one is my second OES and they have been the most gorgeous boys...... And he really does act like an atypical Velcro boy !
Archie is only half Sheepie ( Mum ) but he is joined at the hip with me too , I've just got used to doing everything with him alongside and would really miss him now ! My other 3 dogs are Westies and they don't follow me around at all unless it gets close to their Dinner Time !! I really do prefer the shadow to their apparent indifferance :D

You know - that is a really good point - luckily Baxter is massive, so there's not tripping over him, just slow progress with the housework ! Love him so !
Just a velcro buddy, Summer is behind me at the moment chewing her new birthday toy. She is happy as long as she is stuck to someone in the house, as is my yorkie. I only find it really annoying when I am cooking and almost trip over this woolly mat behind me. Hubby and I are always saying to each other"Look out she is right behind you!"
I haven't been alone in any of our bathrooms since Heart came.....   :D :D
Val, welcome to the "never allowed to go to the bathrom alone because you certainly need a chaperone" club! It's even tougher with a deaf sheepdog, as, even if you wanted to, you cannot verbally correct them from the other side of the door when they are banging, scratching and carrying on. (When we built our current house, we purposely put in a clear glass, walk-in shower, so Oscar has an easier time seeing us.)

As far as cleaning goes, I trained Oscar to understand directional signs as a puppy, and used those signs. I put him in a down-stay in one spot where he could see me, and mopped/vacuumed to that spot. Then I would direct him to another spot, where he could still see me, and so on. When we were done, he got a treat. Also, if I were running around from room to room, and Oscar was particularly frantic, we would work on our down-stay and he would get rewarded intermittently.

Oscar is still my Sheepdog Shadow to some extent, but he has gotten much better at not following me EVERY time I move. Maybe he's just gotten lazy..... 8)

Sometimes I worry about Bert's toes. You would think he would back off after getting stepped on....but no, he is a bit stubborn and needs to accompany me everywhere.

Try having two dogs and a cat while you are in the bathroom. The cat goes where the dogs go! So all three! bla!

OH and I live in a cottage so my bathroom is small :?
Tritto since I have three who do the same.

Well really two now that Winston can hardly get up but it used to be three velcro dogs at once all the time including the bathroom and one tries to get in the shower too.

Chap is the worst. He leans on me so hard when I'm drying my hair I almost tip over. DOG I CANNOT POSSIBLY GET ANY CLOSER TO YOU!
Each room has a designated place and when sheepies are a little too close they get the word to go to their place and then stay. Of course it's only a few feet away, they can see me. Every so often one will sneak up and see what's going on and hopes for kitchen counter treats. If I'm not dealing with boiling water, frying, etc they can stay--other wise it's back to "place."

I've even had to resort to mopping around them. Vacuum, no they leave the house on their own!

Bathroom, well, I'm well guarded. Harry likes to lean into me too. They know before I do if it's a quick trip or an extended stay. Maybe I reach for a magazine and they know, "Oh, Mom's here for the long haul" and go into the hall.
Finn's obedience instructor said I should leash him to
me to keep his attention(being deaf) 8O
I laughed and said I try to sneak away!

Welcome to sheepie world! My guys will follow me EVERYWHERE because I'm the busy one in the house. Foz follows ALL THE TIME, Annie follows depending on her mood and if she thinks something interesting might be going on. Then if one of us is in the kitchen and one in the living room, they go back and forth from room to room.

The only thing that keeps them from following is a gate and then Foz stares as us with pitiful looks. Annie will lay down in a huff.
I don't think it ever changes. It's just a Old English trait. Every one I've had has been that way, some more so than others. Mariah is the worst. I've often said, if she could melt her body into mine, she'd finally be happy. But then she's a singleton................they tend to be a bit more "devoted" than "regulars"!
This morning when I was getting ready for work, I was thinking of these replies.... And yes, Baxter does all of 'em. He laid next to the shower and waited for me, followed me everywhere, leant against me when I was drying my hair etc, ahhhhh you gotta love 'em !!! :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
  :hearts: :hearts:
What a life ---Huh!
hahaha that is funny...i thought i was the only one that has showered....by accident with their oes...lol...can't leave that door open or i will turn around wipe the soap out of my eyes and see harley in the shower with me...within seconds...ahhh harley...lol...
My girl is constantly behind me, in front of me, beside me. I was getting ready for work and took a step back......yep, there she was.......tripped me and the curling iron I had landed on my arm and needless to say.....yeow. I sit in the recliner.....up she comes on my lap. I wouldn't have her any other way. The male I had first was also "stuck" to mommy.
