New Moon and Sheepies

I think I've noticed a pattern with Baxter and the full moon... WHen there's a full moon, his behaviour is really something else ! Diet hasn't changed, we haven't changed, nothing has changed except for this periodic schizo behaviour... Nothing too bad, but very naughty, and, well, inexplicable. And he doesn't settle down. I've decided to remind myself of the next full moon phase..... Hopefully, there's a pattern. It's cute to watch, but.... Has anybody else noticed this at all ??!!??

It's been a running joke in many agility classes I've attended. Less so in obedience. When an entire class of normally pretty attentive dogs start behaving like idiots, we check the calendar for moon phases.

More obvious in beginner/novice classes, so maybe it's a coincidence. Handlers can have collective brainddead nights that leave instructor ready to tear her hair out whether moon is full or not

My Dad was a NYC cop for years and truly believed the moon had an effect on peole's behavior so why not dogs - they should be more intune with nature, not less so :?
Yes!! I agree my sheep does get alittle crazy when a new moon or full moon comes about. I work at a call center and I get crazy calls around those times too!
I haven't really paid much attention to the moon phases with Jenny, but I know they affect my hubby  . I'll have to keep a watch out for Jenny.
ALL the time here.....ALWAYS...
Oscar is truly a "lunatic"! When he was a puppy, he would periodically go through stages of wandering all night. Then he would plop his face on my pillow, his oh-so-cute way of asking me to take him out to go potty, at about 3 a.m. When a puppy asks to go out, especially one on prednisone, you take him, so I would crawl out of bed, throw on clothes and take him out. What would Oscar do? Sniff, wander, sniff some more. Sometimes he didn't even go potty.

A couple of times, I noticed that it seemed to be really bright outside. Ah ha!!!! :bulb: Turns out our little boy is a true lunatic, one who responds to the cycles of the moon. I can tell when a full moon is waxing, as Oscar's behavior gets a little more frantic and anxious each day, and his tummy seems to rumble more, until we culminate in the full moon, and then he seems to calm down. It's not every full moon, but it happens often enough that I don't think it is a coincidence.

I hadn't thought about Ru, but I definitely get achey legs when it's a full moon, and I can't sleep. I figure it's because we are 70% water and the moon affects the tides so why not us :P
yes my boys are wild or more wild with the full moon. my vet told me she gets ready during that time alot more dog fights si i always watch them around this time
When we are at a dog show & our dogs are not behaving as they always do (you know.............the times you take a second look down the lead to see what you have there? ) we check the calendar & yep, you bet! It's a full moon or very close too one!
I've been an ER and a Transport Nurse for 20+ years....I definitely know when the moon is full.
8O

Tonks and Luna were CRAZY last night, despite a full 8 hours at doggie day care. And after romping and being dummies for close to an hour, they got into a fight. Something they almost never do anymore. I'm TOTALLY going to mark my calendar and check next month.
it never seems to effect Archie but our two cats! 8O

Wall of death as they go nuts and hurtle around going spammy, yes some times running around the room half way up the wall I kid you not! imagine this and the Archie wants to join in 8O
Thanks for that - Nice to know the effects just aren't confined to the humans walking around ... Last night Bax was settling down nicely - still a couple of times when he just :excited: NEEDED to go outside, and then proceeded to just wander around, sit on the flowers, go a bit scatty and then he just settled down again.... During the full moon there was NO settling down at all... just this lunatic behaviour ! Next full moon is around the 7th of July, so I'm gonna be watching him !!!!!
