Has anyone else have the same nerves contacting a potential breeder for the first time as they did asking someone out on a date? Or maybe it's just us.... |
|
Don't worry about it! Those of us on the referral list are more than happy to talk to people about a puppy! Remember, we want our puppies in a good, happy home too! We aren't on that list "just to sell puppies". We had to meet extra qualifications to be included on that list. |
I remember when I first emailed my breeder to inquire about my puppy...She had to ask me 3 times to CALL HER....I really didn't want to !!! Emails were fine!!!! But actually talking to her????? ((Shudder)) I really thought I would say something wrong and didn't want to ruin my chances!!!!! ..But, of course, I conquered my fears, called her...and now have my Heart girl~~~~~
Good Luck, we have all been where you are now, and know what you are going through!!!!! ((Welcome to this greart forum!!!!..... )) |
I know what you mean, I just went though that last year. I remember the first question my breeder asked was did I ever have a sheepdog before, fortunately I had 2 before so the rest of the conversation was easy. |
We met at a dogshow. I was competing with my basset Simon in the same rally class, so we were face to face - no hiding out there! |
Thank you for the support! DH and I sent an email out yesterday and are waiting to hear back.
Now that I think about it, how long do we wait for her to contact us back? Is there an etiquette for it before we call? Thanks for the help. It really is appreciated! |

Good Luck, we have all been where you are now, and know what you are going through!!!!! ((Welcome to this greart forum!!!!..... )) Not being a phone person I had a similar issue with one of my breeders But i respect her for wanting something more than email - as difficult as that was for me. (Actually she just responded to an email yesterday reminding me I still need to call her as well ) Depending on who you contacted I would say call today and explain you weren't sure what their show schedule might be and if they check their email regularlly etc... And - Welcome! |
Keep in mind, alot of breeders are gone over the weekends at shows. Alot of us check e-mail when we get home but don't get around to answering right away. I always try to respond as soon as possible but keep in mind sometimes I drive home 5-8 hours from a show, arrive home after midnight & have to get up at 6:30AM to do kennel chores before I head out to work for the day. So give them a few days. Also, it is summertime. People (even breeders ) do take vacations! My cell phone goes with me on vacations but I do no computers on vacation. If you haven't heard back in say 3-5 days, try contacting again. |

Thanks for the info! I'll call in a few days if I don't hear back by email. |
