Just one question: do sheepies always smile? Seems like every picture I see, they seem to have these huge grins on their faces! My husband and I are on the waiting list for the OES rescue. We are still contemplating purchasing a puppy but, truthfully, I'd rather wait for a rescue. Anyway, we have 3 active boys (nearly 9, nearly 5, and 2.5 yo) and just purchased our first home on 2 acres. Not sure what else to add! lol I look forward to reading the rest of the forums and asking questions. Thanks! |

Welcome from PA! I know the waiting can be hard, but the reward in giving a rescue a home more than justifies the wait.
Just be careful of any new dog, pup or adult, around the kids, especially your little one. This is a herding breed and they take their genes very seriously. A good rule to follow is - training for the dog AND the kids!! Can't wait for pictures! |
Wecome from St. Louis!!!!! Can't wait to hear about your new addition!!!! Looking forward to pictures TOO!!!!!!! |
Hi and welcome to the community!
My wife and I waited 6 months for our stork (NEOESR) and it was worth every minute. What part of the country do you call home? |

We're located in southern California in the High Desert. Our property has a fabulous view of the valley and of the Eastern Sierras. sheepieshake wrote: Wecome from St. Louis!!!!! Thank you for the welcome! That's what we thought too and will make sure that the OES meets with our children before we make any major decisions. The best thing for both so everyone can be happy! |
We live in the High Desert too, Palmdale, with two OES. Welcome!!! |
Welcome to the forum from "Upside down land" |
Salutations from Illinois! Welcome to the forum. |
With the younger children it might be a bit to find a fit with a dog who loves kids. Be patient.
Yes, they mostly smile. Sheepdogs are generally a very happy breed especially when in a loving and caring home. I've met some very nasty sheepdogs........living in less than ideal situations or never socialized. |
We're okay to wait. I realize that finding the "perfect" dog takes time but it's well worth it, I think. We're still on the rescue list (I understand they still have people who signed up a year ago waiting for a rescue animal so we're further down than most). We did look for a breeder on the OES "approved" list but that fizzled out, mostly because I prefer a more local breeder than someone across country (not really wanting to put a puppy through the stress of flying).
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I'm learning a lot not only about OES but about how wonderful a community this is too. |
