One day last week, he stopped dead and howled, lifing up his left front paw, I couldn't find anything wrong with it but booked a trip to the Vet for that afternoon. The Vet diagnosed a fungus infection of his paws and suggested clipping the hair etc and washing them in Nizoral shampoo, drying very carefully afterward. During the visit, Willoughby apparently showed his teeth to the Vet, keeping his back to me. I wondered why the Vet was behaving somewhat gingerly around him! I followed his directions, 1/2 hour per paw with scissors on the floor. Needless to say, I was a mess at the end of it. Now four days later, he has improved. Except for an occasiohal lapse, the paws are quite dry when I inspect them: no signs of chewing. SInce he likes chasing the hose, this means we have to be very careful to dry the paws afterward. He's rebooked at the groomer's for the 24 of June. Is there anything else I can do? |

I had a problem similar to this years ago with Isaac. The vet noticed it in the early stages. Since I have always used the clippers to get as much hair as possible out from the pads of the feet, too much hair really wasn't the problem. His licking of his pads was. The vet suggested sprinkling the "V" in the underside of his paw with Tinactin. Cleared it right up. And no more licking as the cycle was broken. |
Many thanks. I have Tinactin powder and was not sure it was safe for dogs. I'll try it! |
