Last year, when my daughter graduated college and got her first "alone" apartment, she decided to adopt a cat. His name is Magellan (Jelly) Lapinski, named after Leo Lapinski who passed last year. Well, now that she is used to living on her own, between work and doing what any 23 year old does while living city, she realizes she is not home enough to take proper care of him (ie: spending time with him). She was talking to me about it yesterday, and I told her she had two choices, 1. Find a very good home for him, or 2. get him a cat. She passed on getting another cat. When I got home last night, I told Tony (sucker!) about it. And, of course, he said, tell her to bring Jelly here. WHAT???!!!!! BUT I DON'T WANT ANOTHER CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has decided that Gordon needs a cat, since he already has 3 dogs! So (sigh)....it looks like we are getting another cat. Please welcome, Jelly! (Pictures to follow) PS: Why am I turning into Marianne? |

I think cats do SO much better when in twos. Mine doesn't have anxiety now that she has a friend, so I think it's a wonderful idea!
Congrats!!!!!!! |
I agree, cats do better in packs just as do dogs. That's why I won't have any, one cat is two too many. I don't hate them, I would just prefer not to live with any.
Tony is a peach.......even if there's a pit in the middle. |
Can't wait to meet Jelly!
Thank goodness our cat thinks he's a dog....... we tried a 2nd cat once, and it was a disaster. He was so incredibly pissed! It was bad. The other cat went back, and our house went back to happy-happy with 1 cat/dog and 5 dog/dogs! |
Deb, that's how my parents got their cat. My younger brother rescued a kitty and then he moved and couldn't keep her--so voila. Mom and Dad get a new kitty.
That's also why I have 3 kitties. My younger brother (sense a trend here?) rescued a kitty and then moved and couldn't keep her so we were nearest so we took her in. Several months later he moved again and wanted her, but she's our only 'normal' cat so we wouldn't give her up! Congrats on Jelly! |

My daughter decided that she was tired of living alone, so she wanted a cat. She really wants a Newfie, but knows she has no business with a big dog until she finishes school and has a house.
She found a cute kitten at a Shelter and hour away. We showed up to adopt her, but she was on hold for a week. When we went back, they had released the 10 kittens to another shelter. We had to wait 3 weeks for them to be up for adoption. I took off work, so we could be first in line. We were there at 4:30 AM, 28 degrees out! They opened up at 8AM. If only we had known that they used the parking lot camera to determine who was first in line, we wouldn't have felt the need to camp out at the front door so long. I talked my husband into letting me get our cat a friend - only 3 dollars for the cat, not yet spayed, had shots or been tested. My daughter got her cat, I got my cat and our vet-who-loves-us-because-we-spend-so-much-there let us bring them in straight away. And now I think I need a Maine Coon, silver/blue. After all, that would make me the mom of three kids, three dogs and three cats. If only my husband would get on board with this. |
Gordon is apricot Maine Coon. And...I suspect Jelly is too, although he is a shelter boy. I have loved all the cats in my life, but my greatest love was Garfield...a brown/black MC..who lived to be 19. If these boys live that long...I sure hope I do too!!!!! |
Deb, how can you turn down a Maine Coon? They are just like small Sheepies - furry, carzy and loving.
Cangrats on your new baby. |
That's awesome news!! And from what I do know of you Deb, you do have a heart of gold.....Gordon is handsome |
Great news! Edwina wants you to know that she thinks Gordon is very handsome! She's a Maine Coon and a very civilized cat. I tell her that she's the only other adult in the household. The boys( Willoughby and Percival) don't count in this category! |

Hi Lynda! Tell Edwina to RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gordon has been neutered, but doesn't realize it! |
Edwina says "Thank you" for the warning. She has her paws full with Percy as it is! |
Ha Ha Just saw this post and I resemble that remark! Except I always think it's the other way around...I'm becoming more like you!
Yup, people often comment my bunnies, dogs and cats are multiplying even tho they are all neutered and spayed. Everyone has to have a "friend". You did a good thing and your furkids are all so gorgeous. |
