I am starting now so that by the time November is here I am hoping he will be a little calmer. I have read that I need to play this really quietly at the beginning and then build it up and up over time. Just wondering if anyone has used something like this and whether it has worked or just made the problem worse. Last year I had to give him bachs rescue remedy to calm him down. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks |

I know someone that used the cd and it helped her dog .
As far as i remember you do have to start it off really quietly also if your dog starts getting upset you haven't to go and cuddle him or show him any extra attention .You just have to carry on with what you are doing and act as normal as possible . I think the idea is your dog sees you aren't worried with the noise so he shouldn't be either. Julianne and Marley |
My obedience trainer uses that CD and the one of thunderstorms too.
She plays it on her car stereo at a reasonable volume but we all start of a fair way from the car so its not loud then we keep moving closer while we do sits, drops etc. As soon as your dog starts to be distracted by the noise you move further away. The idea is not to let it get to the point where your dog is nervous or scared as that reinforces their fear rather than teaching them there's nothing to fear. It is important to act like nothing is happening, just a normal day. Its called desensitisation. We use it for human phobias too. I think there are some trainers here on the forum who know more about it so hopefully they can help you out. |
