This show is run as a match format, that is each dog there gets a number and you are drawn against one other dog, if you beat that dog you go throw to the next round. Then you are drawn against another unbeaten dog and so on until there are only two left, the winner is the Open Show Dog of the Year. Our judge today was Mrs M Bolton-Lockhart. She went Best in Show at Crufts a few years ago with her wonderful whipper "Pencloe Dutch Gold", she has since added Springer Spaniels to her kennel. We were drawn against a lovely bedlinton terrier and though Fernie gave a very good account of himself, the bedlinton won the heat. So we were out of the show after that. The judge did say that it was a very tough decision but the other dog won through on maturity. The eventual over all winner and Open Show dog of the Year was a Springer Spaniel with runner up spot going to a beautiful doberman. Even though we didn't get any further than the first round, I am still so proud of Fernie, firstly in getting invited to this show and secondly on his immaculate behaviour today. We gave of our best and that is all that matters. I still brought the best dog home. Well done Fernie, you are my shining star. Clipper |

Congrats to you and Fernie both!!! |
Hi,
Fernie I'm proud of you!!! That goes for your uprights too! What an honor it was just being part of it and you are such a good looking boy! Marianne and the boys |
My apologies for not getting back to you all. I've been having probs with the comp and posting has been a hit and a miss affair.
Thanks to you all for the wonderful things you say about Fernie. You are all brilliant. As I have said before, it's the taking part that was important, not the outcome. Fernie aquitted himself well, he was a proper gent all day and that was all that counted in my book. Geez the big lad even had his own fan club there. LOL His vet nurse came with her two kids, a client of mine turned up, a friend traveled almost 90 miles just to wish him well and even my sister turned up with her hubby and kids. he must have been the most supported dog there. LOL Pity the judge didn't take that into account. We may have got a bit further in the show. LOL Sorry but no pics, really wasn't my day. Got the camera all sorted, changed the batteries, cleared the memory card and showed a friend how to work it. We got in the ring, strutted our stuff, came out and she asked me how you opened the cover !!!!!!! I thought I would still get some pics with him and his fan club but I got chatting and forgot all about it. LOL Sorry but I think senility has set in early. LOL Thanks again for all your kind words, your support and posts. fernie and I appreciate them all. Thanks, Clipper & Fernie |
Thought you might like to see Fernies' Xmas party pic instead. He's second on the left, the one with the tinsel collar and lead. LOL He wouldn't go without getting dressed for the occassion. LOL I am the rather plain looking one behind him. No party frock for me, I'm only his handler and as such, must stay in the background. LOL
Lots of love to you and your sheepies, Clipper & Fernie |
That's a great pic! |
Sheepie heaven!!! It was wonderful to hear about Fernie's ring exploits! I was waiting to hear about how you two did- since I read the post about his being invited to the show in the first place! I'm glad you had a great time! Keep us updated on his show exploits!
