Is it ridiculous to contemplate getting some form of rain gear for Asterisk? What do you do when it's rainy? |

Well I'm like you. Rain means don't even think about it and you better hold your crap until last possible minute. Thankfully one of mine naturally does it. The other, I can't get back inside if it's raining and it's my worst nightmare. I've actually wanted to start a dang thread about it b/c it's been driving me crazy ...and the leash while peeing doesn't happen. Thankfully we have hurricane season so we can expect lots of rain.
Anyway, I haven't experienced any more knots when mine have gotten wet from the rain actually. I hand dry (pat) w/a towel and then stick a clean dry towel in a crate and shove them in there until they dry. The one who HATES being wet doesn't get too wet since she does her business and RACES in ...so she usually gets to stay out. We have tile so from experience I know wet tile and my little kids don't mix well (not that the situation would change if I didn't have any). |
In and out wet isn't a big deal but a full walk can definitely soak them through and through. A lot of people have raincoats and boots for their dogs. Owen wears boots whenever it's mildly dewy and (thank goodness) I haven't had a need to use the full raincoat on him yet. Clyde is clipped down but he hates the rain so he'll hold it until it stops. Sometimes I go out with my Komondor and a giant golf umbrella so he doesn't get wet. A wet Komondor is a disaster. |
I have been known to walk in rain and snow. Mine get antsy if they don't have a walk. For me it comes down to do I want to deal with grooming the coat or a dog that has too much energy. I find brushing relaxing so I don't mind the extra work. My dogs are another story. One (Miley) dog loves to be groomed - and I would walk her in any weather if she wanted/needed it. The other dog (Jasper) who does not like grooming is a challenge. He of course is the one who generally needs to be walked is younger and has more energy.
Really - I think the rain does soften the coat. In spring we clip down to puppy cuts and I generally don't have any more matts than usual. Snow is harder as the coat is longer and we tend to get snow balls. |
I have rain coats and boots for them that we use if we have to go out in the rain for any length of time. Of course, we try to limit that as much as possible. But, on those days when the rain doesn't let up even long enough for a brief potty break, we put on the rain gear and trek out there. It helps.
So, my vote is, NO, you're not a lunatic. |
Asterisk loves the rain. She'll run like she has a fire lit in her rear and bounce like a tigger.
Any suggestions on what type of dryer to purchase? |
