it hurts so much. i should learn, no dogs on leash. sorry but onlt 1 hand to type.. |

OH NO... feel better soon. I hope they gave you some really good pain meds! |
What the heck. You seriously have the worst luck when it comes to dogs and being right outside your house. I'm glad you seem to be okay, but that has to be painful. I don't think you have to give up the leash, but you have to learn to LET GO OF IT |
I'm so sorry this happened to you
Are you sure you aren't supposed to follow up with an orthopedist? A sling and pain meds might get you through the holiday weekend, but you need a follow up, IMO. |
I cringed when I read "cruch"........either "crunch" or "crush" .....perhaps cruch is a good mix. How frustrating for a holiday weekend, one hand, pain and those darn pain med (OK for pain but makes the rest of you feel icky). Hope you heal quickly.......maybe call your primary MD and get quick referral to an "orthopod". Thinking about a cast, either hung out to side or big honker from shoulder down......you may prefer the sling. |
that's terrible news!!! I hope you heal fast and feel better soon...... |
The humerus is one of the bones that is rarely broken. So congrats, I guess.
When a cast is put on, they immobilze the joint above and the joint below the break. It can't be done for the humerus. The sling is first choice of treatment, though I have seen the waist band (with velcro straps to hold the arm just below the elbow and at the wrist tight against your waist) used a couple of time - it is more commonly used for dislocated shoulders. That said, it would be wise to see an orthopedist. They have the best of slings and can give you better info on exactly how you are doing. I'm sorry it happened. Best wishes for a quick recovery. |

Absolutely, you cant cast a shoulder but if the fractures up near the socket you definitely should get an ortho opinion or you could be in a lot of trouble down the track. Get better fast. |
Sorry to hear about your arm. I hope you heal quickly and feel better soon! |
Yikes! That sounds painful |
Oh, OUCHY, OUCHY
My mom did that a few years ago and all she had was a sling too. It won't take long to figure out what ou use two hands for. Getting dressed, fixing hair...going potty I'll echo and say "hope you got some good pain meds" |
So sorry for you--take care of yourself and hope you heal quickly! |
Ouch! I bet you have some very apologetic sheepies... hope they're gentle with you while you recover |

Very sorry to hear of your accident. Bailee was quite a leash puller also. I'm not a small guy and he was able to pull me whenever he saw someone who wanted to pet him or some other dog who he wanted to meet. Very social little fellow but at 8 months he is also very strong. We started Obedience classes last week and the trainer highly recommended the use of the "Gentle Leader" I picked one up last week and have used it for the last 3 days. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Bailee is a pleasure to walk now, he still wants to "visit" with everyone we see but with the new leash/harness or whatever you choose to call it the effect is like night and day. No more pulling, easy to control and there is no negative impact on Bailee. It did take a couple of walks for him to get used to it, but once he did it may turn out to be the best $16.99 I ever spent. |
I can feel your pain...literally
I fell in Feb....recliner-surfing. I learned the hard way that climbing on a recliner isn't such a good idea. I ended up with a bi-maleular ( tib/fib ankle ) and a mid-shaft tib fracture, surgery....screws/plates....casts...boot....braces and still hurts like heck. As a 50 y.o. ER/transport RN you would think I'd know better A visit to the orthopedist is definitely a good idea. They will be able to follow your progress and refer you to PT should you need it to rehab your shoulder after being immobile for several weeks. Take care, heal quickly.........Kathy |
I'm so sorry! I hope you are feeling better soon! OLD JOKE: What would you do if you broke your arm in 2 places? I wouldn't go back to those two places!!! |
As 20 yrs as an ortho nurse, you did get the correct treatment. No cast, just a sling, or sling and swath, depending on the Dr and the exact break.
We see lots of humerus fx's, they aren't that uncommon. The young out doing crazy stuff, the older ones who fall and get in accidents - no one is safe! Make sure you f/u with an ortho doc, to monitor your recovery and get PT after it starts to heal. |
Ouch!!!! Take care!! Hope you feel better soon... |
