Up until that point, for the first few days, Maggie had been completely ignoring the puppy. It was as if she could neither see nor hear him. I was worried about this but the behaviorist assured me was not just normal, but perfect behavior because she was establishing the ground rules that puppy should respect his elder. Later that day, I saw Maggie finally playing with the puppy and I could hardly believe it when I saw make him give up a toy, only to give it back to him a few moments later or trade him for an even better toy. She was doing exactly what the behaviorist had shown me to do! She is an amazingly good, well-socialized dog and I am so glad I have her to help with Henry. As for Henry, he goes willingly into his crate and sleeps peacefully there. He has had a total blast at two puppy play groups this week, which was probably the most fun thing I did this week. I am going to go every week til he is ready for obedience. He is very carefully monitored and scheduled so as to avoid accidents in the house. He expects a treat whenever he goes outside. He has been great with the baby although I don't let him get too close because he is nippy nippy nippy. But they can play near each other reasonably well -- he is not stressed out by the erratic baby movements and sounds. He greets people and dogs eagerly. He is a really great little guy. Apart from waking up every 3-4 hours to let him out at night, this is going better than I had expected. I am really optimistic that this is going to work out great. I have to get some more pictures of him but it is hard because he does not keep still. |

Oh -- and Henry has already learned how to go up and down stairs! Up is faster than down. He's 9 weeks old and so very talented! |
Awww looking forward to seeing some more photos of Henry and so glad maggie is starting to bond with him. Give her time she is a great girl and I am sure over the years she has a lot to teach henry.
Wait till the teething chewy stage is well and truly over, gotta luv nippy babies (pssst NOT after going through that with two the same age) and so glad henry loves his crate and so welcoming of other people and potty training is going well. He sounds like an absolutely darling little man Maggie wont know herself when the two of them can go hiking and run silly together when henry is more mature. Best friends I am sure they will be. OK Now we need updated Photos of the two of them |
Nothing better than a good bitch to raise a puppy right A bitch like that will make raising him so much easier.
Like you're noticing, most of what I've learned about dog behavior I've learned from observing my "pack" at work, including with visiting dogs, puppies and fosters. Incredible. Enjoy! Kristine |

Cute! I love that last one! I can just tell as he's doing his tough guy growl, he's scooting towards Maggie, seeing how close she'll let him get. I know that move! He's so sweet and I'm thrilled that he's doing so well!
I think Darcy may have meant your boyfriend's baby. |
That's too adorable. I swear Maggie is saying, "oh no... get those puppy teeth away from me." |

Ohhh! THAT baby! Yes, my boyfriend has a baby with a previous girlfriend. It is actually very nice to have an occasional baby to care for. For me, I mean. For him, it is obviously more of a constant. |
Maggie is such a great girl. You are lucky to have her to help with Henry. She is marvelous and can teach him so much!
Adorable pictures. I just love the one of him barking...I can almost hear him. |
Can't wait for Henry and Maggie to be beating down the mtn. trails together. You remember to stay clear though! |
