Nice compliments yesterday

First Obe went to groomer and got a bath, first one since Dec. When I picked him up the groomer stated what wonderful shape he was in. She does 5-6 OES all in full coat. Obe is like a dream when he comes in. Never matted, just stands still while I cut/trim, brush, etc. Made me feel good, I'm doing my job!

The next compliment came from the neighbor. Their 6 month old pup Otis, is finding every possible way out of his fence. When he gets out comes straight over and plays with Obe.

He gets outs and the wife comes over to get him. She asked how I trained Obe to stay in the yard without a fence. She is like he never leaves unless you are with him. You look out the window Obe is laying in the yard, on porch, in the driveway, chasing squirrels from tree to tree, etc.

My answer was I showed him the boundaries and said... DO NOT cross them or your privileges will be revoked. Watched him like a hawk at first, crossed boundary came inside. He caught on very quick how the system works. Neighbors can walk by with their dog Obe watches but doesn't leave, squirrel/cat across street Obe stays.

So it's nice to see all the hard work in training, all the way around, is paying off.

:cheer: Good work, Obe must be so sweet.
Great Job! I bet Obe looks so handsome after his "spa day" and nice bath!
Congrats on the compliments, sounds like you both deserve them!

Can you come & train Ru please?!?!
Congrats on all the compliments! :clappurple: And kudos to you for doing such a great job with Obe, from training to coat maintenance and beyond. Bravo!:go:

So where are the pictures of Obe with his new 'do?? :lmt:
Good job! :D :D

Consistancy and attention to the details really do pay off. In both training and grooming

Yes, we need some pictures of Obe and his new trim. :D

8O 8O 8O How in the world do you get away without mats? Charlie's killing us lately! Friday, Bob spent 3 hours drying him and getting rid of the mats. That's after we had brushed him for 2 night straight and thought they were all gone! (He's 15 months old...does that make a difference??)

Oh YES!!!! shaving at that point is an option - if you want to like have a life

SHon great job!! but remember our guys are herding dogs and respect parimeters - your neighbor may not be so lucky.
GREAT JOB! I would die if I didn't have a fench around the yard

This is the age of coat changes. I swear Chauncey would mat overnight.
Shaving was hard on me, but he seemed to like it. He was much more active.

Most of you who are asking seem to be at the age of coat changes. When Obe was a 13 months he did get shaved to an inch. I have never cut it since.

I do cheat some, I get his belly shaved and behind his ears a little. His armpits are shaved somewhat with his belly. His rear is cut short and blended in, to keep it clean. The shaved parts are the trouble areas, at least on Obe. Then part of him just gets brushed maybe 15-30 minutes every morning after coffee and before walk.

Other than that I let him be a dog. If I find a mat/start of one, I get it out whether we are brushing or he is laying in the yard. There are all my secrets to keeping Obe in good shape. All of which I learned here!
Can you please come East and train Jenny that way. You should really be proud of yourself and Obe.
