We just got back from several adventures in various locations (geocaching) including several forested areas. As soon as we got home we noticed that Tucker has small, bright red dots all over his groin and a few up onto his chest. There are many of them, and we pulled 3-4 blackflies off of him on this area. Are the dots from the flies? There were a LOT of blackflies in one location we were in. He isn't scratching, licking, or otherwise paying them any attention whatsoever. This morning he had zero, now he has about 20. I did notice at the blackfly area we were at that a few times he sort of jumped up and looked at his lower half, like something had bit him. Help! Thanks! |

Sure could be and since they are an early summer pest.....they are also called Mayflies, this could be the cause. Reaction varies greatly from mild to severe depending on person/dog. If he's not licking, good sign. Watch them to make sure they aren't something worse, like poison plant......but I'd not make a fuss least he think he must start licking and scratching because Mommy is worried. |
Maybe gnats?
Chewie looked horrid yesterday - he apparently got swarmed on Wednesday. He was covered in red dots (and dead gnats) along the bridge of his nose, eyes and around the area where his topknot separated from the rest of his hair. He apparently was laying down, as his belly is free from them. |
Sounds like blackflies to me....
Re mayflies, those are something completely different to us... |
