Wow - when training takes hold

I admit this isn't the usual kind of brag. And I admit my guys have finally hit that ripe old age of three plus where they seem to have brains (well at least on alternate weeks). But it is so nice when training really starts to show.

Raising two puppies at the same time (mine are 6 weeks apart) always has been a challenge and like any good mom I tried to take their interests and skills into consideration.

They both had puppy classes and early agility and basic obedience. As they aged and their personalities developed more (and Morgan developed health issues and such that affected his ability to sail over the agility jumps), Marley became a bit of an agility and herding specialist and Morgan excelled in obedience (my herding instructor calls him the world's most laid back herding dog )

As part of Morgan's training in obedience I have been proofing his long downs (okay it is his favorite exercise :) ) on the driveway after walks while I water the lawn or do a few chores. Since I reseeded the back lawn this weekend (my mother's day celebration  ) I have been walking both dogs. This morning I put a long line on Miss Marley and introduced her to the long down while I watered the yard. Her obedience skills are lacking - hence the long line. While I watered - luckily there were no passing dogs or walkers, but cars came through and the next door neighbor who has been in Florida for 7 months and came home yesterday was out inspecting his yard.

With one correction - and one move into the shade for woosie Morgan - they both did really well. Add to that we walked passed the HATED yellow lab this morning with no outward signs of hostility (although Marley has started to develop this crazy BC crouch when she is stressed - lending credence to their being related) and I do believe we may have some outwardly seeming trained dogs on our hands!!!!

Now I wonder if I could calculate what those two long downs cost in terms of classes??????

I think Clyde spends most of his life in a long down.
Feels great, doesn't it?? :P

Bravo for all three of you. It is so nice when the training shows and you see the persistence paying off. :P

LOL - that would get Chewie's vote for favorite obedience exercise as well. :D
