Guess who beat a special to take BEST OF BREED today?
This was a really nice weekend. I'm so proud of us. This is pretty major for a puppy to pop up and beat an established special. The best part was, when I won, the handler didn't get mad, he came over and congratulated me with a hug and a kiss-- how's that for sportsmanlike behavior? Cathy and Marilyn were super awesome as always. I couldn't ask for more supportive mentors and friends. Thanks so much, guys! I'm so happy I'm progressing with your puppy! Finally, thanks for all your encouragement and comments here on the forum. It's great to know I have a whole group of great OES people that I can run home to tell my news! Sorry to leave you in suspense on pictures. I promise as soon as I get them, I'll be sharing them with you guys. |

Jill I am so proud of you and handling your baby boy in the ring, always easier for someone else to do, but you two are making a fabulous duo. That's what it is all about, learning, enjoying, sometimes making mistakes as you go along and when that AWESOME win is achieved nothing better because you did it handling yourself with owen by your side!! I am so estactic and so excited for you both WELL DONE OWEN AND JILL. 
We might stuff up on occassions as we learn the ropes, so be it, it is learning with yourself and your fur baby but nothing compares with that special win when you do it in the ring yourself with your own fur baby. YOU DID WELL KIDDO.
Thought you might get a laugh out of this, someone sent this to me and I think it is so funny. First few times at a show for me, I even ran the wrong way to all the other doggies  , the stuff ups are something you look back on and have a good memory and laugh at, you never stop learning and most important the special wins last a life time when you are the one that took them through to that achievement with, training, patients and listening to mentors. Your on your way kiddo and again Well done, so darn proud of you and owen. 
First Time at a Dog Show First time at a dog show, I'll tell you quite plain I'll never, no never, go near one again. The Breeder said "Show him" when I bought my dog, I showed him alright, the whole place was agog. They gave me a number, they gave me a pin But I couldn't bear to stick the thing in, So I rushed to the shop and bought some clear glue Then I stuck the card onto his back in the loo. We arrived at the ringside to find we were first In the Puppy Class (this part is the worst). We marched in together as fast as we were able Arrived at the judge who said "Up on the table". This really surprised me, my skirt was quite tight, And I just couldn't make it, try hard as I might. The Judge looked quite worried, he said "Listen here, Put your dog on the table, not you, my dear". By now I was trembling, I felt such a fool But I said to myself..."Play it cool, play it cool". "How old?" said the Judge, I heard it quite clear Well really, I thought, and said "Thirty next year". The Steward, poor fellow, threw a kind of fit. He spluttered, he coughed, and his eyes ran a bit. "I'd have that cough seen to" I said to him when He'd finally stopped...then he started again. "Once round the ring, dear, as fast as you can" Said the Judge, so I did, I just ran and ran, But when I arrived (out of breath, I'll admit) The Judge said "Your dog, dear" I felt like a twit. Off round once again, I kept my head bent. Oh the shame, my pup crouched, he just went and went. A lady came running with bucket and spade With manure so spicy, has she got it made. We came back to the Judge who said with a frown "Stand your dog". I said "Please sir, he's not lying down". "You can take First Place stand" he said. I said "Ta". What a job I had getting that stand into the car! Author unknown. |

I've always found professional handlers to be most gracious. Maybe that's why they call them "professional"?

Owen has 4 points from this weekend, unfortunately it wasn't a major for him but, hey, who cares? It was a great weekend! Lisa, that poem was great-- and very fitting. Thank goodness I have good people looking out for me or that might be me! Stewart, I'd be glad to add to the site.
