Any advise on how hot is too hot to go to the dog park/walks? Erin |

depends on the dog?
Marley is in a growing out coat and has a lot of undercoat and she ran agility at 89 degrees the other day. Morgan is ina short coat and won't walk around the block at 80 degrees. Keep her hydrated and take your cue from her - if she seems to want to stay put - stay put. If she is panting a lot, stay put. |
Generally, as temps get into the high 80's and up, walk in the cooler times of the day.........that about leaves mornings. If you must walk in other times be mindful not only of the air temp, but also humidity and ground temperature. Bare earth and pavement can be very hot on their paws! Also they are down closer to the hot pavement than we are. Think shade, rests and take along water and a way to give it to your dog. |
SheepieBoss gave great advise. I think alot of people forget that the cement and the ground/sand gets hot also. My girls like to lay outside and when they come in their coats are so hot they almost burn your hand. Most is common sense, water, shade, rest.
Enjoy the summer. |
Somebody needs to invent doggie flip flops for crossing hot pavement. |

That would be a sight! |
You can use booties on hot pavement - not as cute as flip flops, but effective. |
