I'm not going to post her listing here, but I was wondering if there is a place you can report people for this type of thing? AKC or something? Maybe I'm over reacting. I never see listings for OES litters in Oregon - so this was a shocker. She may just be ignorant. I don't know. I did email her anonymously. |

Who are you to state that this person is an unethical breeder? Are you a vet? As you stated yours has a blue eye, is he blind or deaf? Breeding a blue to blue might make a deaf dog, but I have found this not true in OES. This is alot more prevelant in heelers, austrailan sheperds and such. |

I found an ad for a litter of OES pups in Southern Oregon in a widely distributed classified ads section that reaches all the larger cities here. Problem is the way she's advertising them - mostly blue eyes and white heads - which leads me to believe she's an ignorant, backyard breeder with no ethics or knowledge of health issues with breeding blue eyed to blue eyed OES and how frequently this is going to end up with a deaf dog. (and yes I know I have a blue eyed dog, but he was the only one out of 9, and a rare occurrence, rather than a normal one). The parents of mine had 3 brown eyes, 1 blue.

Sadly enough it happens alot and that is why rescue is always booming. There are certain "breeders" just in it for a buck! I am sure said "breeder" doesn't take the little beauties back after the money has been spent! Of course, I don't know but, that has been my experience. If you find there is something you can do please share...I am sure we would all like to see ALOT of these folks "out of business"! |
Sorry guest but you hold up tp your name |
Now to the post, I don't think you have enough info yet. If you could find out more that would help. You might be right but I think that if you can not go to see and meet this breeder there is little you can do.
I hate BYBers they are hard to put out of business. Thanks for the info though, you may have stopped someone! |
AKC isn't going to help.........as long as the dogs are pure bred, that's all they care. Poorly bred is of no concern to them.
OESCA can't do much if the breeder isn't a member...probably not......and really all they can do is not include them in their breeder referral list. It is truly a buyer beware situation. Anybody can produce anything if there's a market. If people so want a sheepdog that they don't research the breed and problems, then they get what they get. Then rescue gets the rejects (hopefully). You can write articles for local papers and hope they get published, you can go to puppy fairs and have a booth educating people about the breed, but really if this person wants to make a few bucks with a BYB, they can. What's sad is their bad breedings further damage the breed's gene pool for future generations. |
