Help! My 8 month old puppy is matting!

hello, i need so advice. we have a 8 month old oes. our first one so i dont have a clue. im trying.
lately she has been matting really easily, we have had her belly shaved as she does not like rolling over to be brushed- so thought it would be easier to keep her shaved under. im really wanting to keep her long coat i love her in a long coat and i live in uk so it doesnt really got hot here.
BUT i've notice lately she has been getting really matted on her legs and paws or and arm pitts, I brush her every day for about 2 hours and every day there is a new matt.
I use a slicker brush, a de-matter and a spay from denzadog that is ment to help de-matt.
Is there anything anyone can suggest? does it get easier?
Any ideas or oppinions very much appreciated!!!!
thanks

Perhaps she is moving from her puppy blacks to her mature greys. This is a real terror time in grooming. Many owners decide to shave down and start anew with the incoming coat. If you don't, be prepared for some difficult, but not impossible times.

It is fine to shave out some troublesome areas. Of course you'd not do this if she were in the show ring. Arm/leg pits, behind the ears are several locations as well as the belly. Many folks do fine with a slicker, others prefer a pin brush. There is a mat buster that cuts/rips out the mats, but I've never been a fan.

I also question how you are grooming. Have you checked into the grooming discussion by Carl?

This will explain line grooming. Just surface brushing won't work, you have to get down to the skin on small sections. If I remember, he really doesn't get to the "feet" area, but others here will help with that.
yes my groomer informed us when tilly was 12weeks old that we had to lift the coat up (work from the bottom up) and so we do. we get right to the skin and work from there. the rest is fine it just really her legs they are driving me mad!!!! lol
thanks for the link
I totally understand your frustration. I started going through the dreaded coat change at 8 months also, it seemed like all I had to do was look at her ear and there was a mat behind it. I decided to have her shaved down and hopefully, it will come in better.
You can shave her down while she blows her puppy coat and let her adult coat grow in and keep her long then. That's what I've always done. The coat transition period is practically impossibly to keep mats from forming.
i've managed to convince my husband to have her cut. but we have agreed on a puppy cut as not wanting to have her shaved right off.

If she is truly matted they will have to shave her down - the good news is the coat actually grows back very nicely and you have a few weeks without grooming
She's not too bad, just her legs I wonder if the groomer will be able to get the matts out before cutting her? is that pos? I have been able to get them out slowly with the de-matter that I have.

Most groomers won't dematt dogs - I have never met one who will. if they are that bad you might as well shave - its hair and it grows back at the rate of 1/2 and inch a month :D
Hi,
As a groomer I have found that Formula first aid shampoo from dezanadog will get you through this period and really help overcome the changing coats. If you wash and dry her every week for the first 4 weeks the coat will become very silky and matts come out very easy.

I also use the show season detangle spray this is the best I've found, I'm happy to help where I can.
