I want her to be comfy first. But cute also. I love my hairy little beast But I can't stand to see her SO HOT. It's 80 degrees here today. TOO HOT for my chicky. Any ideas? I would love some help deciding what to do. Chiquita's puppy friends mom's sister (did you follow that? ) is in town. She just graduated from grooming school. She's offered to do the grooming: shave, nails, ears and (anal cut???) for $40. Good price? |

When I had my girls done last year for the first time, they were only a little bit older than your pup. I searched OES.org for pictures of what other OES owners had done, printed out the ones I liked, and took them to my groomer. She did a great job!
My "before" and "after" shots |
so so cute!!! Thanks for those pics! |
Sheepieshake's Heart alwats has a great cut; i think i took photos of her to my groomer:
Heart in June '08: Heartin April '09: SheepieMommy's Harry also looks great in his puppy-cut: My groomer explained to me that they got hot from their body heat, which is obviously concentrated in their torsos. So leaving legs longer is okay, as it doesn't contribute to over heating. |
Now you've got me looking too; my girls are getting cut in about a month. I'm trying to hold off until AFTER sheepie Palooza:
Spacegirl's OES looks really cute in a cool summer cut: as does Beebles... who's mommy recommended her groomer to us! And I'm so glad she did: Now can anyone confirm or deny; I read somewhere that the OES will continue to go through coat changes as late as into their fourth year, and that close cutting will help those changes along? If its true; there may be good reason to consider something more like what these fine fellows are sporting: |
Darth snuggle.....ARE THOSE SHEEPIES ON THE BOTTOM????
Thanks sooo much for all the pics. It's helping me decide. I think I def want to keep the head long but just blended in. And I may keep the legs longer too. I'll try to figure out how to post a pic after we have her done. What all do you pay to have the nails clipped, shaven and ears cleaned? I know a lot of you do it yourself. But for those of you who go to the groomer-what's the average? |
DannyboyStephjoy's OES wrote: Darth snuggle.....ARE THOSE SHEEPIES ON THE BOTTOM???? YUP. Can you believe it?!? I'm tempted to do this to Tonks and Luna. I bet they'd feel SOOOOO good! But I worry also; some days we are at the dog park twice a day. I don't want them to get sunburned. With my girls in long coat, I pay about $100 for what they call a "mini-groom". Thats a bath, blow dry, nails, ears plucked. If they have bad matting, its an additional $20/half hour to de-matt. I've only had to have that done once. And I don't remember exactly what my shave down was, but I seem to recall is was just about the same amount. BUT; that length on the legs is achieved with scissors, not a razor. Same with the heads; thats a scissor trim. It takes more time and some skill. But I don't mind paying for it when the girls look so nice afterwards. |
I pay $50 for Obe in full coat. Brush, wash, dry, nails, butt trimmed, feet and pads trimmed, belly shaved. In between grooming visits 3-4 months, I keep ears cleaned/plucked, nails and pads trimmed. The rest gets done while at the groomer. |
I pay $40.00 for Nigel in full coat. I am trying to decide whether to puppy cut him on Friday, he has an appointment. He just looks so good now...but I think he is getting hot. My groomer will not leave him as long as Heart or Harry though. She doesn't have a blade that long and she would have to scissor cut him. I will not let her cut his top knot though...took to long to grow out last time.
Decisions Decisions This is the last puppy cut |

Yep, those are Bandaa's boys Harley and Junior. Here is a pic of them with a little more hair. |
I always do this when I clip Yuki.

so great. I can't believe the 'naked' sheepies !
Chiquita got her full grooming. She had so much hair in her ears! I had no idea what I was supposed to be looking for. So this a.m she got her shave, nails trimmed, pad hair trimmed out, ears cleaned, belly shaved. The underbelly is shaved to keep her cool. The rest is a long shave except for the head which is just trimmed to see her eyes. So the hair on her head is still long. She looks GREAT! And I really think she feels much better. I'll get pictures. She has much better coloring now also. Now she's more gray and white so a lot of the deadish black puppy coat was cut off. Happy! Did I mention that she's already 50 pounds!!! The groomer said she is likely to be 100 pounds full grown. She is HUGE!!!! ohhhhh, what did I bite off? |
i clip panda super short here in the summer....it gets way over 100....
here is a pic of her standard cut...dont laugh...i do it, so its not close to being really good..... she now also has vitiligo (her nose is pink...so when she goes outside, i use chapstick with spf 30)...it stays on her nose longer than regular sunblock |
I love all the pictures of the different cuts. Kirby just had his summer cut. We do have him shaved pretty close. It does get pretty hot in Dakota and we do a lot of hiking. He goes every where with us, so even in the car can be challenging. We pay $40.00 for the works. Cut, nails, ears and he smells sooo good. When we were looking for a good groomer than had experiences with sheepies, I was quoted every where between $80.00 and "it is not close effective to do those breeds". Now we have a really good groomer, and Kirby likes going there.
I do have one question for all of you though. Greg took Kirby for his last cut and she left his eye lashes long. They are about 2 inches long. Do you think she did this to protect his eyes, and keep the dirt and stuff out of them? Thanks for your ideas. I did not notice this last year when he was done. Lu Ann |

Even people on the street comment and say she looks like she is wearing bell bottoms. 2 more weeks and it is gone! thank goodness. Matting up bad with the puppy at her all the time pulling at her fur. |
Nigel is getting clipped today. Alas, my groomer will not spend all day scissor-cutting him, so I told her to leave his head. It took too long to grow out the top knot after last time. He will be close to what I posted above with a bit more hair on his face.
I love him full coated, but with as many 100+ days that we will have here soon, I think he will be happier. I KNOW he will be happier if I am not brushing him all the time for a while. I am also curious to see how much he has filled out since last time. |
NOT good enuff Wendy....We want a new, fresh picture of Nigels new do!!!!!! |
Awaiting approval on the pics now,
Approved...see the pictures thread. |
spacegirl21....I went with your middle picture for the look we wanted for Chiquita. Thanks |
I have been on vac. and just now getting back on here. I took my OES to the groomer for the first time when she was 13 mos. full coat at that time. for brusing, bath, brushout, hair trim - 150.00. ouch!!! Needless to say, I went back to doing it myself. I shaved her for the first time, and the groomers cleaned her up while boarded. $35.00. I think you are getting a good deal. |
