I do have Ice-on-Ice conditioning spray for Asterisk, but she doesn't seem to really let me use it on her. My breeder recommended Cowboy magic for shampooing needs. She said that it really helps keeping the matts under control. Does anyone have experience with this product or any other suggestions? Erin |

Hello,
I just researched this last week as a new OES owner, and its a vast topic. Everyone uses various products with success ranging from specific designer shampoo to Head and Shoulders to blue Dawn dish detergent. I used H&S last bath, and it was excellent for the whites. I followed it with Aussie 3 minute miracle conditioner as someone recommended, and Chloe was soft, sweet smelling and fluffy. You'll get alot of good responses. In the meantime, here are some of the threads I found helpful. The best shampoo What are the best bathing products Suggestions for Shampoo |
I do what my breeders tell me. It's safer that way, lol! |

i like the kelco plum white shampoo, get the whites lovely and white and then the kelco ultra silk conditioner. they dilute 32:1 to make 4 1/2 gallons, so last well too. show seasons do a great range too they really help with the matts, but i have only tried a few of them. |
Since you're already using CC products, why not use CC's Day to Day Shampoo. Many people here say they use it, and I've used it on my dogs for a few years now and think it's great!!! It's light, smells great, and SO easy to rinse out. |

LOL And I thought Jill was giving the good and safe answer. Yes, Dawn, and I, also know of what she speaks, so if you're henchmen, so are 90 % of the rest of breeders methinks! Sunny gave me a great tip the other day: Ivory dish detergent. I was complaining that even after washing Mace with my $50/gallon whitening shampoo, her whites were still dingy. I washed her with the ivory followed by the whitening shampoo and the difference was startling. Not something you should use all the time since it can dry the coat out (though I was also told to add glycerin to counter this - not sure how much though, need to ask the person who gave Sunny the tip.) As for a regular shampoo for normal dirty dogs, there are probably as many suggestions as there are sheepdog owners. I use different shampoos on the whites (usually, but not every time) than I do the grays, and periodically I switch based on whatever Sunny has been playing with lately. She's become my grooming guru. She's also the one who told me to get a Dove soap bar to wash dirty feet and beard with first before bathing. Again, to cut the dirt. Breeder is more prone to trying the latest and greatest to hit the market. I let her test it and if her dogs look OK and their hair doesn't turn purple and Sunny gives me the OK, THEN I try it. Kristine The bar soap idea is something I hadn't thought of. I'll try that one, especially for the beard & chin. I seem to end up with water & soap running all down my arm into my clothes trying to get the shampoo on those areas. When I first started out showing dogs, Paula Mullins told me to use regular blue Dawn dish soap on the beard & chin regularly (not everyday) & before bathing for a show. It cuts the grease build up & lets the whitening shampoo get to work. For the darks I use Econogroom diluted 1:1. You can dilute it up to 16:1 which is what I suppose alot of grooming salons do. For whites, I have tired numerous things. I keep coming back to a combination I mx up of Econogroom, Shimmer Lights & water. Seem to work best for me on my dogs. |
