Straining to urinate

Saffy (3 years old and in great health) started something new the last 2 days: straining to pee and nothing comes out. She does actually pee with her usual stream and no visible blood at her usual walks. But this wanting to pee at odd times is unusual. You know how you know your own OES and notice something different? Well, it's not like she is marking. She even woke me up during the night to go out and squat many times but nothing was coming out. I recently started giving her vitamins as she was eating grass alot. Could it be associated with that? Also, have had house guests so her routine is the same and she is getting lots of loving attention, but still her "pack" has changed. Should I take her to the vet? She is not in pain and is her playful self. Thanks for reading this. You "regulars" always come through with sound advice.

Yes take her to the veterinarian - from your description, it sounds as though she may have a urinary tract infection. They will probably want you to bring in a urine sample. If you haven't done this before, ask the technicians for instructions.

Definitely sounds like a UTI and might explain the grass eating too.
Yup, sounds like an UTI. Even if you can't get a urine sample, please take her in to the Vet..he/she will know what to do. My Aussie, China went through this a few months ago.

Good luck.
Thank you Jennifer, Mim, and Violet. Vet confirmed your disgnosis of UTI. He said it was very common with females. She's on an antibiotic for 10 days. Thanks again. I so appreciate the people on this forum. I don't check it as much as when Saffy was a puppy but it is such a wonderful resource.
