My dishwasher (appliance kind, not the human kind) has to be replaced on accounta leaking and it's 10 years old. I don't want anything fancy. I don't have a garbage disposal so I don't want a dishwasher that grinds stuff up. I don't put pots and pans in the dishwasher so I don't need fancy scrubbing or rinse and hold or any junk like that. I just want one that washes and is relatively quiet and doesn't take an hour. Suggestions regarding brands, features, etc????? |

Paula, All I can tell you is what we got last year. The washer was here when we bought the house. GROSS.....
It did not clean , nor did my dinner plates fit in. WAY to small. So When we had to get other new applinances we choose a whirlpool. No, not top of the line. It does run about 50 mins with full load which is the only way I run it. I do not have a disposer and this works great. We did get a group price on it because we also got a frig, GE Profile top of the line dual fual range and a washer, Dryer. Just wanted to shre. |
Hi there Paula. Perfect topic for a sunny Ohio afternoon
Dang-- I wish we had known sooner. I just gave away a white Kenmore - top of the line. It was only used 1 year, and has been in the basement since then. The only thing wrong with it was I wanted black vs white appliances. ( I am suprised I am still married) Moving forward....We only buy Kenmore--except for sweepers and I love my Electrolux.... Different price ranges are available, as well as features. I would think if you just want the basic functions, any of the better name brands would carry a stripped down version. Have you looked in Consumer Reports? I find them helpful at times for the least expensive, "run 'em till they drop" options for appliances. |
kitchen aide and whirlpool tend to be the best...bosch is horrible, so are fishel pakel...i have a miele which i love..... |

I used to LOVE Kitchen aide-- but had two bad experiences - -one on top of the other... For what ever reason I started liking Kenmore-- which I USED to dislike. Fickle. |
Darcy, does anyone other than fishel pakel make a 2 drawer dishwasher? It's something I've thought about since I'll have to put a dishwasher in here to sell the house. The reduced load feature looks interesting.
Miele does make good stuff.......better with a professional discout I imagine. |
Whirlpool! They are the best.
And get a delay on it - it can start after you go to bed, so you have the most hot water for your shower. |
I have a maytag I love the delay feature. It says "Quiet Series" but they are wrong- it is not quiet. |
I have a Kenmore Ultra quiet guard 7 I would not recommend you waste your money on this one. We thought oh it has sanitize and other germ fighting options and at the time we had two kids still drinking from bottles, it looked like a good idea. Stainless steel interior too.
It grows mold in the door hinge the milk drops from the cups (no I don't rinse my dishes that is why I have a dishwasher) and falls into the hinge or where the door meets the base of the dishwasher. No water gets in here when the door is closed so mold just grows like crazy. You can actually pull mold and the hard water out from under the plastic that protects the hinge in long hard yuck chunks. (reminds me of cat poop or cat vomit) I tried calling Kenmore to complain (or Sears customer service) yeah right. This same great customer service department that sent me a technician that broke the dishwasher when he came to do the one year check up. Just what every mother of two young children wants to do dishes by hand for two weeks while we wait for the part that the techie guy broke on a nearly perfectly running dishwasher (to me at that time it was perfect as I still hadn't figured out the mold thing yet). Good luck in finding a dishwasher. Avoid this Kenmore type as it turns out my cousin has the same problem. Lucky for her she is single. |
Love Miele and I have a Bosch stainless steel dishwasher that was put in 2 years ago and love it, nice and quiet too and simple controlls and gets everything spotless.
Sheepie boss the fishel pakel 2 draw dishwasher is great, especially if you are empty nesters with no kids at home, have a few friends that have the 2 draw one installed and the best thing is the small load only 1 draw option, entertaining or kids home for meals then with a bigger load then you can use both. Cleans well and it looks great too installed in the kitchen. |

Miele does make good stuff.......better with a professional discout I imagine. kitchenaide, fishel pakel and kenmore....here is a link to nextag that has a list of them.......the only problem that i found was that you cannot put normal size cutting boards in them (the plastic kind)..when i was looking around when i did my kitchen i was just going to put one drawer in..(its a super small kitchen)...i took my largest thing, which was the cutting board and went around and tried to fit it all the different models...no go...so i ended up with the miele 18'' which has adjustable racks! http://www.nextag.com/two-drawer-dishwasher/search-html |
Duh! I keep forgetting about NexTag! Thanks! Looks like I have plenty of options. I'll think about your 18" dishwasher too since I have a small galley kitchen and some issues re: human ability to get down low or high. |
I have a Kenmore Elite (it's a Bosch) and it is nearly 100% silent in operation, although you can hear the pump and the water going into the drain when it is discharging water.
It is now about 3 years old and I've never had a moment's problem with it. It has no electric dryer, no grinder. You must use a rinse agent with it. The water sheets off of the dishes and remaining moisture evaporates to the cooler stainless steel tub. The unit raises the water temperature to 161 degrees to sanitize, so if you have electric hot water you can turn down the temp and use get the same results for less energy cost. If you have gas hot water, it might cost a bit more to operate. |
I have a Kitchenaid. I can't even remember how old it is except that it is definitley MORE than 5 years old. Most likely 10 or more at least. Very quiet in operation. |
If you decide to go with a Kenmore, remember that there is really no manufacturer named Kenmore. Sears contracts with one of the manufacturers and pays to have the Sears Kenmore name on the product. Usually the manufacturer is of excellent quality. Just ask the sales rep. Also be aware that a top of the line dishwasher has essentually the very same "core" as the bottom of the line varient. The normal difference is simply the "Bells & Whistles" that go along with it, such as plate warming, etc. Our cousin was a reginal manager for Hobart who owned the "Kitchenaide" brand. He explained to us the actual dish washing portion of the unit was exactly the same from top of the line all the way to the most ecconomical. Funny thing was we purchased the "Baseline" model and the truck delivered a top of the line and then refused to take it back and actually made us keep the better one at the same price. |
Kenmore all the way.... they last forever.... whatever the underlying manufacturer may be I've never been disappointed by any kenmore appliance. |
