50th BD-- I want Nick Arrojo to cut my hair!!

I turn 50 July 4th. We are going to Niagra Falls for a few days- staying in a beautiful falls side room...

I want to make a small side trip to NYC-- only adding 9 hours drive time.

Why you ask? I want Nick Arrojo to cut my hair. For those who don't recognize the name-- he is the stylist on "What Not To Wear" -- and I want him to work his magic on me. ( as best he can anyway)

I've done my homework. A cut by Nick costs $500. Other stylist in his salon are cheaper-- from 85 up. He has openings on the days we can be there.

Is this crazy?? Extravogant??? Of course it is. But - hey, what better time to do something crazy than when turning 50!

John is not as excited as I am, for the obvious reasons. Drive time- money -----

He says if I really, really, really, really want this-go ahead and book it.

The "let it all go wild" side says go for it. The other side says selfish.
After all-- it isn't like I can have him do the maintainance on my new do, and it is a lot of money for one cut.

Oh -did I mention that I also want him to work his color magic? That is a mere $200 and up.

Thoughts and comments welcome! Any and all ;)

hmm I would think 50 is a good time to splurge - but you might find someone as talented closer to home who will charge less and then you could afford the TV lighting to carry around with you to show off the haircut and color
I love Nick Arrojo!! Do it!!

Now that is an idea! Maybe I could even hire someone for a month to walk behind me with the lighting.
I say do it! Nick would give you an awesome cut. BUT. Then you have to find someone in your hometown who can maintain the cut.

And you must post photos of you and Nick. :D

Oh if this happens I am SO posting the pictures. The salon will be like "Ma Kettle goes to the big city" when the hick ( me) starts snapping my digital Sony!

The next problem will be that I have NOTHING to wear when going to the salon. :x
I'm all for the splurge and I wouldn't hesitate if that's what you want but be careful. I think Nick makes anyone with curly hair look like a mushroom and 10 years older-- or just like him.
NOPE! I would do anything for a famous person like that to do my hair!! I just would tell my husband "it was really expensive." Makes him not ask, and he'd assume a lot less. Lucky girl!!!
I guess now would be a bad time to mention that I simply hop up on the grooming table at a dog show now and again and have Sunny/Lucali trim my hair when she's finished trimming my dog's hair.... 8O

Do whatever makes you happy.

I have curls-- but NO WAY do I EVER wear it curly. I actually would have a challange for him. I can do my own hair- just fine. BUT, I have never had a stylist do it well at all. The cuts are fine-- excellant in fact with the gal I go to. But she can't get it to look good when she blow dries it.
Nobody has ever been able to. I could never get it done on a lunch hour. I have to go straight home and redo. That is another reason I would like to do this. I would love to see if he could style it, as well as cut it.

Not lucky yet, but, you guys are really fueling my fire!! I need to really work out these details!

John just came home and said " If we are going to do all of this-- then we are flying"

Really :sidestep:

Yes really...I've been there
Although I did get "politely" asked to leave by the lady getting the haircut.....must have been something to do with the comments coming out of my mouth........

I LOVE the hairstyles he creates. I say go for it!!! :cheer:
I've seen him do some cuts that I loved and others I thought - what was he thinking? 8O

But, if that's what you want, I say GO FOR IT!! You only turn 50 once and you should splurge on something extravagant for yourself. :go:
Go for it!!!! I love most of everything he does...the person always looks better than before he does his magic...cost...think what people spend on a new TV and stereo systems today...you are worth every penny and more! I am envious because I think Nick is the only one I would say "do what you think will look the best"...of course I would want the makeup makeover as well....can you line up someone to do your makeup as well...then go for a really great photo shoot...we only live once and I'm sure many husbands have spent far more for a boat, tv setup or like my husband a John Deere tractor/mower! Can't wait to see photos!
Go for it! Selfish, maybe, but in a good way, you know? Sometimes you just have to do things like this for yourself. And you've had a challenging year, so I think you deserve it.

Oh, and if you go, you have to be on the Today show with a sign that says something like it's my 50th birthday!!
^^^

i could watch for everyone and put it on here for all to see.

and if you do, be sure to tell lester holt about this board. He has oes ;)
If the money is available, and it won't cause a hardship...I say...

DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 60th (oh lordie!) is coming up next Feb, and I'm thinking of something special to do to celebrate!

GO FOR IT!!!!!
Yes I agree do it.

Just make sure you get a style which you can maintain afterwards.

Can we have before and after photos???
I think what stinks is ...there is only so much a stylist can do if your hair is already really short. So... I think it would be more about styling your hair and trimming what you already have.
Do it!!! Then if you have a stylist already, go home and show it off (assuming you like it), get many pictures; front, back, sides so hopefully it can be recreated.

You only turn 50 once........though some of us are recycling it for a decade or two.
