I know she'll feel so much better, and we're supposed to be getting temps into the 80s by this weekend... so she'll thank us for sure! And she's also going thru her coat change, losing all that puppy fur and getting her adult fur so she's been matting pretty bad- despite being brushed twice a week... so ya know.. I can't wait to see what she looks like when I pick her up, though I'll be sooo sad that I won't be able to recognize her |

Pictures please and let us know how you make out. P. S. I just made the appointment to get Jenny done on Saturday. |
I did the exact same thing with Fitz yesterday - got his big beautiful fur all chopped off. Like you, I was sad & I thought for sure I'd cry when I went to pick him up ... but actually I was amazed and very pleased at how handsome he is under all that fur! I didn't cry - I laughed with joy (and surprise)!
I can't keep my eyes off him. (It is kind of like having a new dog.) The best thing is that I can read Fitz's facial expressions way, way better now. And I don't have to brush him 8 hours a week for awhile, woohoo! I love it! And really: Fitz loves his new do too. I can tell now when he's smiling, and for sure, he's smiling a lot. I hope you're pleased with Bailey's new do - I'm sure Bailey will be happy too. |
I have a question. At what age will our OES change over from his puppy coat? Bailee is 7 months old now and I am planning on clipping him very soon. The weather is starting to get warmer (expected 80's this week end) and even now I have noticed a slower pace when we walk, a bit more of the panting and the temps are only hitting the high 60's and low 70's here in New jersey. His coat now is about 4 to 5 inches long. |
We shaved our 16 mo old for the first time this past weekend. I tackled it myself. What a chore. But I had to because I missed 1 week of brushing a month ago, and just could not recover (the coat change matt bandits). It took me probably 2 hours just to get up the nerve to cut anything but the very tips. She did pretty well considering it was her first exposure to the clippers. The matts were worse than I thought. But she is much cooler now. No heavy panting in the house or during our walks. I can't even leave the ceiling fan on for her during the day, because she was too cold. People who know her on walks are in shock, but say how pretty she is. I think it her coloring. My husband can't get over how long the legs are. But I do think that she acts more skiddish about things on our walks. |
I just uploaded some photos of her new 'do to the gallery. I don't know when they'll show up in there, but you'll be able to tell for sure!
Her groomer cut wayyy to much hair off! And of course, it's decided to rain & be chilly out today! Luckily Bailey likes to snuggle up on an old blanket, so she's staying nice & warm in this damp, yucky weather! She really does look like a whole other dog, though! I can't believe it!!!! The only way I could tell it was her was by her wall-eyes and the freckles on her snout! I could say by her personality, but she's been acting more like a puppy-puppy again! |

I'm not sure when the age usually is (I'm no OES expert at all) but our Bailey is 10 months old and has been going thru her coat-change for a couple of months now... it started slowly, then all of a sudden she was a mess! Full of puppy hair & her adult hair! And I think she started losing a winter-type coat, too- all at once! Yuck! Getting it shaved off is so much better in my opinion! she seems a lot happier too! No more matts makes me a happy camper!!! |
Bailey looks very nice and ready for the nice weather. The one good thing about sheepies if you think a groomer has taken too much off, it always grows back! |
It's OK, by early summer you'll have a nice fuzzy sheepdog. In the mean time take advantage of the shorter coat and go do "messy" things so a bath is a simple splash and dash. |
How interesting, Kirby had is summer cut just Tuesday.
Even though I love it when he is long and fluffy - when it is short, he can run with Greg, he is not afraid of the water/lake, he catches frisbees and is full of energy. He has a great groomer, he smells wonderful when he comes home and is full of life. Since we hike, and backpack he is much more comfortable, has more energy and is free from burrs and dirt. I really believe sinced he goes everywhere with us, for the summer he is better off. We have a hard time even traveling in the car when his hair is really long. Either I freeze or he is too hot. Now we are both comfortable. I have to say though, our groomer left is eye lashes really long. They are about two inches long! So cute - |
I love Max with his Summer cut.
I like it as short as possible. That way he can get in the mud and we can just spray him off with the hose (both of which he loves) It's funny the first time they come home without the hair! |
I feel your pain too. Chloe had a severe clip a month ago. I just didn't know what to ask for, and being new to this, just said "a short summer cut please". I was shocked also! Plus, she came home with a poodle do, which I didn't even realize until I read more about cuts here.
But in just one month, she has grown out into a nice, fuzzy, fluffy adorable cut. And kudos to those who posted pics of cute puppy cuts, as I copied those and took them to the groomer yesterday. We decided together to cut the top knot fluff off, scissor her ears shorter and more round, and ta-dah!! She is a sheepie again! It hurt me more than her though. |

I know what you mean about the top knot fluff. My groomer convinced me to leave it as well with some hair on the ears, it isn't what I have been used to with past sheepies. I just had her done on Saturday and think I am taking her back tomorrow to get rid of the top knot for bangs and shave her ears like the rest of her body. |
We got what I call a "lion-cut" one time. I took him back the next day to get it fixed up.
They shaved everything but his head - it was bizarre. |
