I don't know of a guide, so I can't help you directly, but on a related note...
We took murphy in arround Christmas to the groomers to get his bangs cut washed, brushed the whole 9 yards. I ask them to please make sure they trimmed his paws down because he had hair sticking down between his toes and he couldn't get any traction on our kitchen floor. When we got him back, he still had the same problem. They trimmed it but not enough to do the job. I'm anxious to see what other folks think |
Trimming the paws is not difficult. If the dog is not used to it, go slowly with lots of praise and treats while you fiddle with his feet. You can trim the fur flush with the pads and between the pads with small rounded tip scissors or with clippers. Either way works well. |
I think you can ask Carl Lindon... That guy knows A LOT about grooming.
By the way Cerdata... welcome! I love your avatar!!! |
Having had the pleasure of being owned by 2 sheepies,
we have just about every OES book in our library. For a photograph of paw trimming refer to Pet Owners Guide to the Old English Sheepdog by Ruth Wilkinson (Ringpress Books Ltd.) Its a little book, filled with great pictures and good advice... I'm sure you could find it at the library or major bookstore. P.S. We used these books prior to the internet--- it was wonderful to find the forum, the members are the best, and their knowledge, expertise, and advice has helped us keep our sheepie in top form ! Thank you, oes.org members !!! |

Hahahaha ROFL Willowsprite, you crack me up! Woof turns into a monster when I try to use scissors around his feet... |
Two things, the hose is very near my back door where I keep the dog towels. And, wehn you use the sissors in tight quarters anchor one blade on the skin and turn the scissors to a slight anglethat way you won't accidently cut the skin. This is the same for around the Butt etc, Also cut the hair from under the pad completly out, Buy yourself some Oster a-5's a 2 or 3 good blades and attachments total investment about $200 but who's counting anyway. Also I highly recommend http://www.protectivespecialties.com/vacugroomer.htm VAc u Groomer. It cost $59 plus shipping but is a blessing. They screw right on your clippers and suck up all the hair.
