Problem:at the moment..I have no dentist. I used to. I kinda liked him, as much as you can like a dentist. Then he and his assistant started to talk above my head. Thats just rude. Not going back there. I have a fear of dentists, well the pain that they cause. So I have decided to go to a Sedation Dentist. You go to sleep and wake up and the works all done. Sounds easy, right? Not so much. First you need a driver. Can't drive drowsy. Next you need to call them. For me thats the hard part. I really dislike dentists. Anyone have any good tips so I can get the nerve up to call them? |

OK, think about an infection getting into the jaw or face bones and possible loss of more teeth. By treating this one tooth now you will save yourself far more anguish....bridges or maybe even dentures.
You need to start mentally looking at the positive side.....by calling your pain will end quickly and not bother your life. You'll retain your natural teeth which is a blessing. Be upfront with the sedation dentist. He's heard your story before which is why he offers this service. Use it. Could a cab sub for a driver?? |
Go to the dentist.
I have a bad experience - really bad. I had a young mom admitted to the hospital as a patient. She had a tooth infection that she had put off. It spread to her jaw, then into her whole body. She was whisked into emergency surgery the evening she was admitted, but later died after she was airlifted to St Paul for treatment in a bariatric chamber to try and stop the spread of the bacteria. GO TO THE DENTIST!! |
Like you I am afraid, no make that terrified of going to the dentist. I would happily chew my own arm off rather than go
I can actually cry at the thought of going. It seems pathetic to people who have no fear but I am with you on the fear factor. However sedation is also the answer for me too. Unfortunatley there is no cure for making the initial phonecall... you just have to be brave, and do it. Good luck |
OMG...I did it!!!! I made an appointment at 3:45 today
They know how scared I am. I made that VERY clear! I almost started crying on the phone. Kept telling myself "I can do this, I can do this, I CAN DO THIS Now I get the fun of stressing about it the whole day. |
Well done!
You will have to try and stay occupied all day! |
Ah glad you made an appt. Hopefully it went well. |
When I go to the dentist for checkups, I just go gunho about the whole routine. I don't think about it, I pick up the phone, make the appoint for asap then refuse to dwell on the subject till one hour before I get in the chair. Sounds silly, but usually I'm so busy getting through traffic and what not that I don't get time to fret. I think about that saying, 'and this too shall pass' and concentrate on things that will take place a few days after the appoint. |
Several of my Water Baby friends are going through dental problems: post bridge problems. That is they have had bridges but after awhile they fail and the alternative is empty spaces or implants. Implants bring on a whole new terror beside the cost! |
Dentists, why did it have to be Dentists! I'd rather take a beating than be in that chair.
One word, "gas". Only enough to ease the anxiety, then the rest of the process is bearable. |
If after the initial check I need a filling, I ask to sit up straight rather than lie down for the first injection. It makes you feel a lot more in control of the situation rather than being a victim trapped in the chair. I also go to a lady dentist, I'm not sexist, it's just women have smaller hands than men and it is a lot more comfortable. |
