Eeeck, that was an early one.
I should check Chewie, we were out herding all day yesterday. Although, I grew up in Maplewood, then moved north of Stillwater, and I never had so many ticks as when I was a kid growing up there!! Checking for woodticks was an every evening bedtime routine at our house. |
It startled me! How do you check Chewie when his coat is SO LONG? Mags isn't that long, but I am now paranoid that there are some more ticks in there hiding! We were at an Earth Day celebration and the dogs were running and rolling and running and rolling in the grass for hours. It was in town and since the grass just turned a shade of green today after the rain, it wasn't the romping in the tall grass that did it.
I started her Vectra 3-D on March 7th. The vet said (those great Wisc. farm vets!) it was a good idea to start earlier then later since there are a few days that are warmer in March. So, she has had 2 applications so far. The stuff worked really well last year, we never had one bite, but found a few dead on the top of her coat. I am hoping that if I keep an eye out on it and hope that the only area that her skin didn't absorb was right by her ear opening. I would assume that the ticks would be starting to come out |
It is hard to check on Chewie. Line grooming is how I found the 2 he had last summer.
AND - Todd just found one crawling on his back this morning!!! So our 1st one too at our house. |
