Umm... dumb question I know but... what does he do with it? I mean, he's cleaning people's yards right? Does he do that weekly?

Our people have some sort of disposal system set up on their truck-- it's kind of like some sort of tank and I guess there enzymes involved to help break it down? I believe they take the tank to a landfill regularly to dispose of it. It's money well spent for us! I still pick some up but they get the bulk of it and haul it away. With three big dogs, all with different poo schedules, it's just a lot easier for us.

Our people come once a week but there's other plans you can choose to have them come more or less and the price is different depending on the number of dogs. I think sometimes they come more than once if they're in the neighborhood but they never charge us. They're really good people.
How far are you guys willing to commute? I pay more than twice that for our service! 8O 8O

I am the first to admit it's a lot of money to expend but at the same time it's worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY.
as far as I know he has relocated and now in Texas.
I think its worth it too. Although we popper scooed today and it took 30 min. thats not so bad with 3 dogs.
He must not be close to me though - that's way better than what we could find when we looked.
I must be cheap! :? I can't imagine paying someone to do that. Of course, I have 3 dogs now. When I had 4, one of them liked to snack on it so I was always in the habit of cleaning up immediately after they went. Just part of my kennel chores I guess!
Yea, I have to get outside as soon as Ru has done his so he doesn't eat it, so our yard is always poo free. I don't think we have a business like that here.
Same here, its the quick or the....erm....eaten.
So I rush around behind my two with the poop picker upper. Otherwise its poop breath, ewwww. 8O
We dont have that kind of business here either, well not that I've heard of.
I'm with you Marilyn - too cheap!!
I pick up after 5 in the dog yard, and little Tazz in the front. (He doesn't go out with the big dogs)

I don't mind doing it, and I like keeping an eye on the character of the poop (nurses are used to this!!! and get mad if our patients flush the toilet before we get to see it!) I also am checking the mulch cover, and rake it around to cover up bare spots. Luckily I did it Friday evening before the rains hit last night - and no muddy paws this morning :D
I also have the dogs out with me when I pick up, they seem to really like having me out in the dog yard with them :D
I'm too cheap too but I had a neighbor in AK who did have the service, and I was a little jealous b/c they had someone do it while stepping outside in the butt cold for buried in snow poop while trying to convince a toddler to stay inside was not my favorite task.

We pick up poop as they go. A lot easier although we don't do it on days it rains.

Yes, keeping on top of the character of the poop is another reason here too! I forgot to mention that!. Amazing what can interest (or should I say entertain) some of us 8O . I need to get a life!
So do I, I need a life too.  Waiting for Syd to pass a top knot tie, he loves eating them out of Moms and Babs head coat

I pick up myself as soon as they do it, always checking that it is firm, no things in it like twigs, grass, stuffie fluff, top knot ties etc and if known what they have ingested that they should of not ingested nice to know it has passed

I dont like leaving it around for someone else to collect later as we also have a problem with Blowies (Flies) in the warmer weather so better to get rid of it as soon as it is dropped. 8)

Wishing you well in the pooper scooper business. :D
Ah yes, checking for things in the poop. 8O
What a joy!!! NOT!
4 or 5 years ago Rastus hurt his back, so my friend who is a vet was here giving him acupuncture.
Silly mutt ate an acupuncture needle. 8O 8O 8O We both lunged for it, so he figured it must be a really, really good thing and promptly swallowed it. Ever seen a vet with their hand down a dog's throat to the wrist, I have.
Well what do you do? Feed the dog cotton wool of course and then wait and wait and wait.
After 8 days of checking through every poo with a stick, no walks, I was NOT going there in public! it finally turned up!!
By then I was getting daily text messages from friend's asking after Rastus.
All I can say is looking for a needle in a stack aint much fun!!!
welll my son helping me clean up last spring.... and he kept saying you should not feed the dogs carrots...... I don't, so I went over to see what he was talking about and it was my ear plugs. Blue loves them and I have to hide them all the time. Bed time snack I guess.
I must be incredibly lucky with only having one dog, and one dog that doesn't like pooing in the garden, when he does it is on the gravel and he covers it up like our cats would (this does make picking the stones out best left till it has dried a bit!)

But he only goes in the garden if his first walk is late.

I bought one of those dog loo's you sink in the ground when we Archie first came to live with us, it is grim, and the enzyme stuff is slow to work, maybe our weather is a little to cold? - but I was being silly, I now simply bag any in the garden up and put in the dog poo bins we have here.

I often wondered how you guys n gals with packs coped! seems like a good idea.
We do have services like that in our area, but I don't use one. I like to monitor their output. And, I just scoop as they go, so it's never a build up, unless it's raining for a few days or something. Still, then it only takes a few minutes to clean it up and I still get to see what was in it.

Our people give regular "reports" if they find anything out of the ordinary.
Oh that's good! Then you get the best of both worlds.

Given Sybil, I'd probably be charged extra for the frequency of the "reports".  Count me in as too cheap to pay someone to do it and I need to get it up ASAP as poop area is small for number of dogs. Ugh.

As an aside I ran into the owners of one of Sybil's half sisters yesterday. Hadn't seen them for a while, but didn't think too much about it as there aren't many shows in this area during winter. Turns out she had eaten something she shouldn't have <gasp! I'm just shocked! :? > and had to be hospitalized and was partially shaved during the process even though the item in question did, eh, pass naturally.

Also had lunch with my vet yesterday and recalled afterwards that one of the topics of conversation was the significance of the color of poop. And we wonder why non-dog people think we're WEIRD?

Kristine
Never realized there was such a service, but we always leash walk Jenny to a field and I always have a supply of poop bags in my pocket. For me it's just easier to get rid of it as she goes LOL.

How many times have you seen people staring at you when dinging out with dog show friends after the show & the topic turns to "the winner's bitch class" "or "so & so has a bitch that..........?"

I remember being taken aback 12 years ago when I went to take a look at Melody at Pooh-Bear's kennel & Kathie said "we sell our dogs for $$$ & our bitches for $$$$"!!!!!! I learned soon that if I was going to participate in the dog show world that would become common language among dog show people.
Our service gives greatly detailed reports on anything suspicious, and we really appreciate that.

They also disinfect their footwear and tools upon entry and exit of the yard (I've seen it when I've been home). For a while we were scheduled for right in the middle of the day so that the scooper could sit on our riverbank and eat his picnic lunch. I thought that was nice. He was also a retired police officer so I always felt like that was a little added safety for when we weren't home.

I often accompany the dogs to "poo corner" so that I can supervise. It's great fun, however, to just walk away after.

And I love that it's scooped up and hauled away. I don't even want to know where it goes next. I'm just glad it's gone.
i dont know....we just scoop as she goes..and on a walk bring 2 poop bags....its not that difficult nor honestly, that gross...in my world $47.00 a month is a pair of shoes on sale!

My thoughts exactly except that $47.00 is 2 dog show entries (or pretty close!) As I said before........I need to get a life!

Scooping as you go is a lot more pleasant with one dog and in warm and delightful Arizona. $50 is a small price to pay to not have to chip away frozen poo or go out in sub-zero weather to collect it. It's a bargain to me. Like I said, I still pick up-- I don't mind it, it's just a major convenience to have most of it picked up and hauled away.

I was reading about "with one dog and in warm and delightful"....and I thought you were talking about the character of your dog poop!!! 8O 8O 8O

Yep if I had to chip away at frozen poopsicles I would be very happy to pay someone else to chip away and take away. 8O I cant imagine it frozen hard to the ground :?

I'm still trying to work out what a scopper is :lmt:

In my case, a "scooper" is a plastic sandwich-sized baggie placed over my hand to scoop it up of the gravel dog run or grass of a tree lawn & deposit it in a bag. But then I am vertically challenged & the ground isn't that far away for me. For the vast majority of the dog population a "pooper-scooper" is a med. sized rake or shovel on a longer stick about the length of a broom stick or so & a pan attached to another stick. Usually out of aluminum. You scoop with the rake/shovel into the pan & get rid of the waste. Being that I am challenged when it comes to working 2 things at once (not to mention I usually am dodging running dogs) I resort to the second method only when necessary.......such as when the dogs use an ex-pen at a campsite. Easier then to reach over & use the 2nd method than to figure out how to fit thru the door of the ex-pen!

You too?????????

This is my least favorite part. Much worse than chipping frozen dog poop...

The latter which I call playing Poop Tiddly-winks (<sp> when you try to chip into into the poop bucket). For those of you who were born roughly around the Dark Ages, before there were computerized games
