Rally, Obedience and Agility at Sheepiepalooza

I want to clarify again the information on the brochure regarding the Performance Events at Sheepiepalooza since a few people here in St. Louis have asked about it.

Matches require pre-entry and are for dogs with experience.

A match is pretty much the same as a trial except that it doesn't count for points towards a title. It is a great opportunity for someone who has been training their dog for a while and wants to see if their dog is trial ready.

If your dog has never done obedience, rally or agility (other than last year's Sheepiepalooza) or has very little experience than you would be a SUB-NOVICE who pays at the gate.

If you have questions about where you might fit in feel free to PM me as the performance chair.

We are excited to offer again the sub-novice category, that we created, as a chance for dogs to try rally and agility.

I love that sub novice category and wish everybody offered it! what a way to get people interested in training their dogs!!

Kudos to you!!!
Thanks Kerry, we hope lots of people take advantage of it since you can't get this kind of thing other places.

A little more clarification: Sub-Novice entries will have assistance in the ring to help you learn when it is your turn.

Match entries will have judges and nobody to help since it is assumed you are able to master everything in the ring.

I will post some basic criteria in a bit for those who might be on the fence.
Basics you should have before entering at a match level:

Obedience: At a novice level your dog should be able to heel freely (off leash), have a recall, do a long down (3 minutes) and a long sit (1 minute) at a distance and be able to do a stand for examination.

Rally: At a novice level your dog should be able to sit, down, do fronts and both finishes.

Agility: At a novice level you should be able to verbally send your dog off leash to a series of obstacles and the dog should know how to manuever each obstacle.

Well yes........ but the first few times I did Rally with Harry he was so excited that I wouldn't say we had the loosest leash.

I just want people to know what kinds of things they will find in a match and though a loose leash is ideal it would not keep you from entering Novice Rally.

Unlike Novice Obedience where if your dog cannot heel off leash then you are in over your head. I should know - Harry was excused from the ring for this very thing.
