Well, after nearly 2 years of adoration, flirtation, and affection, he is completely enamored of my sweet Maggie. She has worked wonders on him. He plays with her, gives her treats, and cuddles on the couch with her. He even lets her lick him without cringing. It is incredibly cute and sometimes I can barely believe he is the same guy. So now he says that he really thinks Maggie needs a puppy. He's right! I've been thinking the same thing for a while but I was reluctant to pursue it because I thought I would be pushing my luck. It was good enough that he likes her, I thought. But no, he says, he really thinks he'd enjoy raising a puppy and that Maggie would really enjoy having a playmate. She does have more energy to play at night than we do. She's really come into her own as an only dog but at this point, I think the benefits have been had and now she could really use some companionship beyond what she gets at the dogpark. It would be my choice to find a rescue (1-2 years old) but I guess if he would really like a puppy, it would be worth it to get a dog that he would be excited to watch grow up. I don't think he realizes what he is in for with housebreaking, teething, etc., but I think he can cope. I can't believe that he is actually behind the idea. So we don't have anyone particular in mind at this point although I am hoping Ali might have some more puppies this summer . . . But just the fact that I can actually consider getting a puppy without losing my boyfriend seems like huge news to me. |

Way to go!! A puppy is so darn cute he will not get upset of @##$$%% you will have to put up with. CONGRATS |
Oh how fun is this!!! And how sweet that both of you captured his heart. |
Ali was just telling me both her girls are acting like they are coming into season...and she is planning on breeding Delilah next time she does. Hopefully it works out in your favor Val. What progress!!!! |
Wow, that is really awesome...
If you want a rescue puppy, I know who has a 6 month old that needs just the kind of home you would provide...hint hint hint... |
I've always considered Maggie to be a Wonderdog. Guess I was right, she has turned a stone hard heart into gelatin with her sheepdog love. |

I would love to be able to do rescue and have a puppy but I guess I thought that was too much. Oh, we were wondering -- do all boy sheepies end up peeing on themselves? |

It was amazing the way she kept at him, batting her eyes at him, always wanting to sit next to him, giving her paw. Her behavior is absurd and hilarious and I think after all the laughing he just fell in love with how she made him feel. He plays with her more than I do. I love seeing them together. |
Nigel pees on his front legs a lot...mostly when he decides not to lift his leg...or when it is windy. He doesn't do it every time though. |
Edgar rarely pees on himself. What exciting news for you both. |
Great news always knew Maggie was special and winning BF over would not surprise me at all with the Magic Maggie.
I am warming so much to boys after having girls for years. Yes he still pees on his front legs, but a little baby corn starch powder on that and a flick of the brush on his legs before he comes inside makes the pee pee smell go away and the urine on those legs too, he is much more laid back then the girls. A lump and a big woozie sweetie. If you get a pup dont decide on which sex wait and see on personality of the maybe puppy and see what would suit you, BF and Maggies lifestyle and what would fit in the best in your home enviroment with you all. With Maggie I can see a sparky bouncy baby to keep up with the Magic Mags. Best wishes with it all wether a pupper or young rescue, which ever, it is going to be so much fun for you all. |
Ohhhhhhhhhh ...that is the most exciting news still waiting on the marriage announcement too ...I don't know a dog who could be luckier than to join you guys, and if they dog only knew what a great location it would live in
I'm glad to hear everything is going so well! |
Who could resist the charms of Maggie???? She planned this all along, crafty girl. |
I think that's just fantastic news. While I'm not surprised at Maggie's ability to win over a former "non-dog" person. She's quite a remarkable girl. But, to have him suggest a puppy, wow, that's beyond progress!
I wish you much success in finding just the right puppy for your home. |

Wow, Val - what FANTASTIC news!! Maggie was always SO good with Chum and now it's her turn to be the big sister! |
val,
that is absolutely wonderful!! im so happy for you! maggie is a charmer though, i dont think anyone is immune to her charm! |
Congrats! Dog adversion to Dog lover, not an easy task.
FYI, I still have my foster Kramer, 20 months and he doesn't pee on his legs. Sheeps over Aces |
Chewie doesn't pee on his legs either - neither did our other 2 boy OES.
Good job to Maggie on winning over the BF! |
LOL.. I just had a thought.. yes Darcy.. I have them to myself sometimes...
Has Maggie rolled in anything..........um.. green or brown and really really smelly since the new boyfriend? |
Valerie,
I'm back and ya know what? I think Mr. Checkers needs to come over and stay with you and Mr. right???? Sure would help me out some........2 girls coming into season and 2 boys in the house sure is a handful!! And yes, we will be having a litter (crossed fingers) here this summer. You and I talked about this once before!!!!! You know the mom and dad very well. Ali |

You and I talked about this once before!!!!! You know the mom and dad very well. Ali Ali -- I would love to borrow Checkers! I think it would be a great test of whether Maggie wants a little brother. The only issue would be whether Mr. Fluffypants would be allowed to go to the dogpark or on hikes with us. . . |
Val, I am not surprised tha Maggie won over your boyfriend. I had never been around sheepdogs before I met Rosemary. Her comment was that "We come as a pair." Syd made sure that I felt welcomed and won me over to the sheepie side. Good luck with the additional one. |

Your sweet rescue puppy looks so cute but my BF would not even realize he is still a puppy because he is so big already. He really wants to see the little one grow up physically. . He better pay attention because these guys get big so fast. I'm starting to think he has some idea that he would feel closer if he knew the pup from birth but I think he is underestimating his connection to Maggie a bit. Once he realizes how hard it is to train a pup he might even appreciate Maggie more. She is so obedient and sweet tempered. And she adores him completely. |

Makes it easier transitioning a pup into the family, with maggie as a help with teaching a new arrival the lifestyle in the household, I think she will be a wonderfull big Sister to any pupper , also nice to see them bloom from bubbas and develope under your TLC and after the destructo puppy hood they should be bonded well, enjoying the household lifestyle together and be the bestest of buddies the two fur kids together. (Pssst you have warned BF about potty accidents and chewing everything in site till they learn & mature a bit more ). You might need a dog Val if BF has taken over the love affair with the magic mags. I laugh here now, Syd is such a mommas boy and Brie and Babs are all for daddy and my two sons, I get wiped by the girls when all the boys are home from work , Syd at least is still paying all the attention to his momma. |
Looking forward to seeing which ever you decide on be it a baby or teenager sheepie |
Congrats for the breakthrough...
Can't wait to hear about the new baby, wherever he/she comes from! I have only had one male(a foster) that peed on his paws! I love the boys! (my girls too) |
