when I give him a treat

When we give our 5 month old OES a treat of any kind - he carries it around in his mouth and whines - he does this for anywhere between 5-10 minutes and then will eat it - Is this wierd or what?? Has any one else had this??

Sorry, I'm no help, my 9 month old is so food motivated, give her a treat it's instantly gone, only whining would be looking for more.
When I give Snowy a marrow bone she does the same thing. Nothing is wrong so I find it OK.
That is weird LOL
does he have a place he feels safe to eat it? my slower eaters want to be somewhere away from the other food nuts before they will actually eat their treats.
I never thought about him feeling safe - maybe he doesn't - but it happens anywhere - even if we give him one where he eats his normal food. But I will try and give them to him in different places and see if his reaction is different!! Who knows!
for some reason mine don't want to take it in their crates (which they love) but a fairly open space (Living room rug comes to mind :D )
Wow, you give good treats! Mine only get picky when the treats are real special.......raw meaty bones.......and they want to enjoy them in seclusion. Otherwise, mine get their treats in the kitchen and immediately run to the dining room with them........."Well, Mom, this is the dining room?" I try not to think about the slobber factor in the carpet fibers.........
My sheepie doesnt do this but we had a dog who did when I was a kid.
We kids all thought it was hysterical. as he'd run around whining before settling to eat it.

I'd forgotten all about it till I read your post :D

As kids we all thought he was trying to find just the right place to eat it and was hurrying up already because it was a treat. As an adult I have no idea but being torn between eating it quickly so no one else gets it and finding somewhere safe to eat it so no one else gets it may be what's happening.
They sure are a funny breed!! Never know what you are going to get next!! 8O
If I give Max two treats, he'll eat the first one, and then run off with the second one.

He'll usually hide it in the bed or in the laundry and push sheets or clothes on top of it and hide it for later.

I've never heard him whine about it, though. I'd guess your OES is really excited about the treat!
