Well, Dreft is considered the one to use for babies and people with laundry soap allergies.
Otherwise, maybe try one that is color (dye) and fragrance free. It could be the fabric softner causing the problem too - I know someone who reacts just as you described from the FS. |
Ditch any fabric softener and switch to something fragrance free. I'm allergic to most detergents and have gone that route for years. |
If you've narrowed it down to detergent, there are several brands that have allergy-free formulas - no dye/fragrances and mild detergent.
Dreft is a good suggestion too. |
Mommies who use dreft generally choose ...what I believe (Brand) is ALL baby detergent. Same thing ...cost less. Not to mention the sunday paper usually carries coupons for all. Sometimes it can be hard to find from what I hear on baby boards. |
I have the same itchy experience with detergents and softeners. I use the fragrance-free kind (in any brand) for both, or Woolite.
My mom sent me a recipe to make my own detergent that works great too! And it does wonders in my HE Washer. I will find it if you want me to. Oh, and the reason why I don't use the home-made version now is that you really have to make it outside because of all of the shaving of the bars....and it hasn't gotten warm here yet to do it! |
Many long years ago when my baby devloped a rash from soap at the Dr. s advice I added vinegar to the rinse water ( can't remember how much now) and the rash was no more |
My husband went through the same thing when I changed detergents and now I use Arm & Hammer with no dyes or fragrances and he's had no more problems. You may have to experiment to see what works for him. |
Thanks for all the info.
I think I will try Arm and Hammer and All. I do not use fabric softner at all. He got itchy from that a yr ago. I use to use Gain. Have to look at that again to. |
Ditto Arm and Hammer, no fragrance, no softener, etc.
If you give vinegar a try, it's one cup per load after the suds get pumped out. |
I'm kinda sensitive and we just add another cold rinse at the end of the cycle. |
