Hi Bridy,
I can't help with the uriniation issue, but I can tell you about our experience in giving pills. We started with the shove-it-down-the-throat method, and it was pure agony for all concerned. Then we used the half a piece of bread (white and nice and mushy so a little piece balled up will hold several pills) method. I hope all goes well for you, but even if Matie need to take pill long term, I can tell you that pill time was definately treat time for the jakester (and us, too!). Good Luck. |
A female dog that develops a "leaking" problem after being spayed is a common problem with many breeds including OES'. Typically, the "leaking occurs when the dog is lying down, the urine just leaks out while they are sleeping.
The incident where the dog squatted over and over does sound like a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) or some other type of urine/bladder/yeast issue. Vets often do a sterile sample where they actually obtain the urine from inside the dog, rather than capturing a sample when the dog is urinating. I have had a female with "leaking" years ago, and then, the method of dealing with it was an antihistamine (forget which one) and DES (a hormone). My current spayed female leaks and she gets Proin (PPA) daily and DES once a week. I take a small piece of ripe banana and mush the pills into it (I also give her Ester-C, vitamin C). Best of luck. |
Hi,
I have just gone thru the same thing with my 1 and a Half year old spayed female Ginger. We solved the problem with stilbestrol 1mg and voila problem solved. Balled up bread with peanut butter and the pill goes down like nobody's business. Hope that helps. Carver |
well, the vet had me take matie off of the ppa. we tried it for 3 months and she said try without and maybe she won't need it. her last pill was sunday night. well, we woke up this morning with a big wet sheepie butt cheek. so, went to get her more pills. she'll be on for life. the good news is they gave me chewables of propalin which she likes almost as much as the pills wrapped in string cheese or peanut butter and they are $4 less a month! now i can put that savings into the greenie fund! matie is very happy about that! |
