Avoiding the Class instructor?

So I had a question after obedience class tonight and the instructor was going to show me how to teach Bert to sit in the heel position(with his rear end closer to me) ...anyways when the instructor took Bert's leash he immediately threw it into reverse just trying to get away. What a stubborn sheepdog

He shaped up when I took over.
I was surprised by this behavior.
Any thoughts?

Perfectly normal.

I find that in my classes. Some dogs I can take the lead and show the owner exactly what I am trying to say. Others dogs just aren't that comfortable with a stranger doing that. Both are normal.

When there's a pup not wanting to leave the owner, I stand in front of them (facing the same way they are) and demonstrate it with Chewie or whichever dog I have with me that night.
Thanks, that makes me feel better.
George did the same when he was a pup.

He completely freaked out and wouldn't work with the trainer at all.
Probably realises that the trainer is a control freak trying to sap the free spirit out of Bert
I have noticed that my boys will act this way more than the girls most of the time. Nothing really bad, they just would rather stay closer to me than go with a stranger or even someone they know. My girls are a bit more trusting or should I say "adventuresome". Especially Mariah! If she thinks there might be food available, off she goes with whomever.
Poor Bert. Christy, Jenny is just finishing up her Obedience class and didn't seem to mind too much when the instructor took her to show an exercise.

Jenny says not to let the instructor pick on her brother LOL.

At the risk of having to bring out the poor Sybil icon, after hearing about her visiting the trial secretaries, and watching Marley visit every single person in the room in class last night before deigning to play disc with me, I was wondering this morning if perhaps we could try to isolate the "social gene" and selectively breed it back a tad?

Sorry to digress. Morgan was and is more like this than Marley - but he was actually able to pass his CGC, she is being held up on progress for it because of her inability to see me leave the building as it were.
