half done, we needed to take a break. It scares me to see how skinny he is What should I do with his tail? I know he still needs to be evened out, but not too bad for a first time for both of us. He still hates the brush, but did not seem to mind the clippers. We will start brushing 20 minutes a day to get him used to it. Maybe we will let him grow out for the winter. |

He is cute!!!
Be careful with the tail and keep some hair on it! They wag their tales to bloods if you cut it all off. |
He looks cute! What blade # did you use? |
I think it was 3 3/4 ceramic. The one that leaves hair the longest |

You did a nice job. I like that blade. You feel like you didn't scalp them when you're done-- it's much less shocking than a #10! |
He is soooo adorable and what a cute tail. LOL |
I used scissors on his head, legs and feet. As you can see, his feet and legs still need some work. I am not happy with his tail. You can't tell from the picture but it looks bigger than he does! |
Great job!! |
Looks like you did some good work there, Nelson looks great! Don't worry about him looking skinny. When I first had my Ollie's hair shaved I was convinced he was malnourished, he looked so thin without all the hair. But as long as he just looks skinny but is healthy it will be fine. Not sure how old he is but he probably still has plenty of thinning out to do. If you are unsure what to do with the tail have a look at some of my photos of a recently clipped Ollie with his tail left intact. Some like it, some don't. I think it's fine. That cut was only a month ago with a very short clipper all over and already he is fluffy again. |
Ollie looks great! How old is he?
Nelson is probably 7 months (he came from a shelter so we are not sure) |
I'm not sure which medical condition makes you say the polar opposite of what you mean but I obviously have it! When I just wrote that Nelson still has a lot of thinning out to do, of course what I actually meant is he has a lot of fattening out to do! Not sure how that happened! |
Very nice job.
Maybe scissors about half the tail hair? That way it will be fluffy, but not twice the size of the rest of him. |
