Val has one just like this. It folds to the dimensions of the short side as opposed to the long side (like my older version by the same company) and is a lot easier to carry around as a result. Plus it seems to be a lot lighter than mine. Anyway, this was a lot better deal (about 33% cheaper than most crates) than what some of our club members paid for the same crate elsewhere a while back. So we thought we would share the link for those who inquired and for others in the market for a crate. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-HomeN-Go-Deluxe ... .m14.l1262 I was surprised how much I love my crate for Harry when I take him places. He just seems much more relaxed and secure in it even though he isn't crated at home. |

Great idea, Judi.
We bought a soft crate for "Wild Angel" for Sheepiefest last year and it was money well spent. Angel is not keen about other dogs getting into her "space" so it was safer for her as well as the other dogs at the event. Also freed us up to do other things knowing she was comfortably contained. |
How funny, I was about to hit "new topic' to ask what kind I should get. So the quality of this one is good? I hate buying something w/o several people telling me it's good. lol
We just went to grandparents house this weekend and brought our wire crate, and though it's SUPER easy to break down, we had to keep it outside b/c we didn't want to ruin anyone's floor (at our house, we have a rug under it). |

I am so happy with the crate I got..it is very light but sturdy........
This picture was taken at Nationals in Sept 08...((Judi is able to leave the top open with Harry and he just peeks out from time to time))).....See how nice Harry sits in his crate ???????? Since this was the first time I had used it, I thought I would do that same thing.....HOWEVER...Heart thought the open top meant she could try to jump out, although she was still too clumsy to actually do it!!!!!!! |
Val has been very happy with hers.
Mine is the older model so it is not quite as lightweight. The only downside to soft-sided crates Jo is that the dog can scratch/bite its way out of it if it is crazed (like a puppy can be)but if you are there to correct the puppy this will not be an issue. This is a very well made soft-sided crate. I got mine at Petsmart. Someone ordered it online and returned it to the store but they did not have a price on it. So they sold it to me for $115. Only later did I find out that it should have been about $180. I have had no problems with the operation of the crate - just with the dog in the crate. But this is a way better price than Val paid for hers and I have priced comparable crates and it is definitely a good price. |

Mrs J, Softsided crates aren't recommended for puppies typically. It's just too easy to chew out of them and/or have a pee fest in them (hard to clean!) or...you name it. I have some of the last cabana crates ever made (softsided, great crates, but expensive!) and I don't let my puppies in them till they're 18-24 mos old if I'm not right there eyeballing the little fiends. Almost three in Sybil's case. Foster dogs never see the inside of one. Ever. They have some nice, lightweight metal ones with great portability for dogs you don't feel like gambling $100-200 on What you already have is probably perfect if it's for your puppy and, yes, like Kerry said, bring a lightweight throw rug for underneath and you're good to go. Kristine Kristine forgot to mention athletic young dogs who think - hey I can jump on to p of that 48" long soft sided crate (read expensive!) and don't think about the damage to the supports that will result No not Sybil - Marley |
Thanks for the info and the should have been obvious ideas! He's usually in our sight, even when he was outside which we HATED but w/so many grandchildren on tile ...it was the best option so they don't get knocked down. Of course mr. j let him inside more times than I would have liked (men don't seem to "GET" when other people are annoyed). lol He's a pretty mellow dog while in his crate (no pee issues BUT he does tend to nest before he lays down which I guess could tear it! |

That is not true - the canvas is sturdy - not so the mesh. Harry likes to get silly in his crate which usually results in it rolling over on its side. And the cushion that goes in the bottom of the crate is always a mess from Harry's nonsense. But he does stay in his crate even with the top open. |
does it have a side door? I am trying to find a crate for the back of the Rav and need a side door entry. |
YEP!!! It has a side door...too |
I have no problems with puppies in soft sided crates. They always go in the car with me and that is what they are in in the hotel rooms.
I never leave a puppy alone in them, i am always close by, but have found that they make for great transportation for puppies in the back of my car, hotel rooms, visiting houses etc. i've never had a problem with any dog with them at all. |
With this being mentioned I figured at least a couple members might be interested in getting these from the EBAY seller. I emailed them and asked since it was mentioned here if they would be willing to give a discount. Here is the reply
Yes, if 5 members would buy I could give each person a $5.00 discount. ($114.95 ea.--Free shipping) If all 5 crates were sent to the same address I could give a $10.00 discount on each one. ($109.95 ea--Free shipping) If you have any further questions, please let me know and I can send you an invoice. Stacey - petworldplus. Seems like a pretty good deal. Thanks for passing on the link. |
anybody familiar with this crate?
http://www.digitpet.com/product_group.cfm?cid=1001,2003,3027&pid=12093 I so do not want to spend a fortune for another soft crate - just becasue Morgan's is actually too big when foded to fit in my car I may only bring one crate and the xpen. |
This is the one I have called Dog Digs - and it is very portable and super lightweight. It packs in a tote similar to the ones the collapsible chairs come in - just a little bigger.
It opens on the long side - the side pictured in the link. I found it available online at target - but I got mine in a fundraiser silent auction. http://www.target.com/Dog-Digs-Carrier- ... f_rd_t=201 Here are some pictures also: and this one with Will in it! I have a better picture, but need to download it.... |

If I get my van back in time I'm bringing two x-pens for the herd. If not, I'm not even sure how I'll fit the herd in the wagon, though Jan has offered to transport Che again, and I suppose I can always tie Sybil to the roof rack. (All together now: POOR SYBIL! ) If I have the van (and I'd better!) I'll try to bring a grooming table. Kristine |
Dawn it looks very nice - but I am being very cranky tonight and don't want to spend that much! He has a perfectly good Midwest portable crate, if he wasn;t such a horse it would fit in the car!
See - cranky. Actually I may just bring Marley. If Morgan isn't 100% healthy between now and when I leave he is staying home with Dan and the other boys. He'll be much closer to the vet that way . It will be interesting to see Marley take his place in rally and obedience if I leave him home |
I understand about the cost.....I got mine for MUCH less at the silent auction!
Kristine - if you don't have your van back...I will try to not even think about that.... I'm sure we can squeeze in the grooming table with our stuff. |
If Morgan stays home (Dan didn't blow his top when I suggested it) I will have pleanty of room for my table - it might as well get some use |
well I waited too long, and am having a hard time finding a store where I can buy a portable crate big enough for the girls. Wish me luck tomorrow; if I don't find one then, I'm not sure what we'll do!!! |

Play pen? Actually I'm bringing ex-pens so I'm only half teasing, though you probably can't find them easily locally. I have larger mesh crates and can stick two dogs in each if need be, but the ex-pens take less room. I just have to remember to stake them down for the leaners and put something over the top, even a mesh works, for the jumpers (that would be Sybil) Come to think of it, maybe I should pack a crate just for her... Kristine |
well I have found ONE crate big enough. Seems most places have the 36 inch "intermediate" size, and its too small. One dog in one crate and one dog in the bathroom works, right? |
Well, Chewie would pick the bathroom, hands down. He never lays on the carpet or beds - his home is the tile in the bathroom at motels!!
If your bathroom girl isn't a jumper - just bring a babygate. That's what my friend Donna does with her toy breed dogs when we go to shows and share a motel room. The bathrooms are the domain of "the littles"! Then at night the littles go in their crates, and Chewie gets the bathroom...... |
