My niece Ashley called that night and we were heartbroken. Maggie was under observation at the Med Center, and a decision was going to be made on Wednesday. Maggie was 9, and, even a young dog like Max struggles to recover from a spinal injury. They couldn't bring themselves make the decision on Wednesday, but, by this morning they sadly knew Maggie needed to run free at the bridge. Because of her age and size, the surgeon didn't feel that surgery would be wise. They talked about a cart, but when it was all said and done, everyone knew it was time. My niece and her family are watching All Dogs Go to Heaven tonight, in hopes of helping the little girls understand. I only met Maggie twice, but, she was a dog that captured your heart and didn't let go. I will miss hearing stories about her. Skyler and Alayna were fortunate to have her in their lives. They will have fond memories of Maggie and her antics. Rest in Peace dear girl, and thank you for loving my girls. I certainly know they loved you. |

How tragic! I'm so sorry for your family's loss of Maggie. |
awww, this made me cry...i grew up with 2 goldens...muffy was our pillow too...that darn dog would let us do just about anything to her....my most favorite memory was laying on the floor using muffys tummy as a pillow and rubbing her soft ear under my nose like a blankie....sniff
may maggie join muffy at the bridge with all of the other awesome pets! |
Goldens have such giant hearts and gentle souls. What a sad accident. I am so sorry for your loss. |

She sounds like a sweet girl. The kind of dog you count yourself lucky to know and live with. Once the pain fades, she will leave those that knew her with many wonderful memories. |
I'm also sorry for their loss ...........and have to put a smile on my face by what they named her. I'm singing the song now in my head.

Thanks everyone.
The little girls were very sad about Maggie, and, my niece corrected me about them watching the "All dogs go to heaven movie"...she didn't think that would help On the Saturday after they lost Maggie, Kathy, the babysitter received a phone call. It was a friend of her daughters that had a 10 week old Golden-- and --she needed to find a home for Bailey. Seems they had got the puppy, and THEN told the landlord. He was having NO part of an animal in the house, so, they either had to move, or find a new home for the baby. They were not in a position to move. This friend knew of the loss of Maggie, and thought it would be a perfect solution. Kathy wasn't so sure... too soon. BUT they went and met Bailey. SUPRISE! When Ashley took the girls to Kathy's on Monday, they were greeted by the little darlin. I guess Alayna, who will be 2 Saturday, looked at the puppy and said " Aw- Maggie... her little now!" So that took some explaining. The girls are having a great time with Bailey. And Kathy thinks it was "divine intervention" that brought Bailey to them. What ever it was, Maggie was a wonderful dog, and from what I hear, Bailey is quickly capturing some hearts too. |
