ALSO WHEN I WASH HIM HE'S FINE IN THE WATER BUT ONCE I STOP HE RUNS CRAZY ROUND THE PLACE. I JUST HAVE TO STAY OUT OF HIS WAY IT WORRIES ME AS HE'S ONLY 11WEEKS |

He sounds perfectly normal. This is quite common with the breed.......or most puppies. You've got a playful dog on your hands, best to join in the games. |
I use stainless steel bowls. Those are hard to break. |

Us too - even running them over with the car only dents them They outgrow the waterbowl issue usually - we used water dishes where most of the water was in a jug when they were younger. Mine never ran around after a bath - but I crated them after a bath. I believe some people have grow sheepies who still do this (where is that poor Sybil icon?) |
Both are normal.
I don't let the wet Chewie race around after a bath. He would be having water everywhere. He gets a towel dry, and we play with the towel while face drying - just so he gets some fun and reward for being so good! Then it is walk to the table, up and under the dryer. My shorthaired dogs do get to race after they are well towel dried. Tazz and Riley mostly want to curl up and get warm. Simon races a bit (less now as he's almost 10) and really gets into rolling on the carpet and couch rubbing. Maggie - she just acts like her "normal" self, which is crazy enough . If your pup is too naughty, go to a stainless bowl with small amounts of water. You will just need to refill it more often. I use the water fountain too - but no one messes with it. OK, except Tazz (5 pound min pin) who scoots it across the floor if he notices it is empty. Makes a racket, so I guess it works to get our attention. With 6 in the house, we go through a LOT of water. |

Yes, I have grown OES who still run around after a bath. Well, one now. The boy. Sybil is more like Chewie and their mom, Mad, and a big fan of playing with towels, so she runs to the table for a game of fluff the face. Their brother, Che, I have to tackle and wrestle to the table or he'll do the Sheepie 500 around the house. Not!!! Normal. Very normal. I think most outgrow it or you learn to slip a sliplead on them before they hop out of the tub. Or bathe them wearing running shoes so you can tackle them...That works too. Kristine |

ALSO WHEN I WASH HIM HE'S FINE IN THE WATER BUT ONCE I STOP HE RUNS CRAZY ROUND THE PLACE. I JUST HAVE TO STAY OUT OF HIS WAY IT WORRIES ME AS HE'S ONLY 11WEEKS Funny my dog only did this when his outdoor water bowl iced up, he would break the ice. I did have a cat that would only drink water from her paw. Dip dip drink dip dip drink even under a running water tap. She had us well trained we would turn the tap on so she could drink fresh water with her paw. Since he keeps having fun with this after he knows there is water in the bowl I would rule out vision problems. What about raising his water bowl up off the ground? |
thank you ALL for replying its my first OES |
Yep, sounds like a normal sheepie puppy to me!
For the water issue, I might also suggest using a heavier bowl so that it can't be flipped. Or, you could use one of those bowls which is contained in something that won't allow it to be taken out - like one of those stands that can be elevated, only don't elevate it. Clear as mud? As for the running around after a bath, my girl does that too if I let her and she's five years old. Instead, I towel her dry and let her roll on the floor in the bathroom before going to her crate to air dry for awhile. After about an hour, I put her on the table and blow her dry. Both behaviours will most likely be outgrown before you know it. Congrats on your puppy and welcome to the forum! |
