I was so glad I picked up the phone last night and made the call. I had found D's parents, and they told me she was remarried, and would love to hear from us. So- we called. She told us the story of DeWayne's passing. Seems they had visited their daughter in AZ the week before, and had a wonderful time with them. DeWayne had spent some extra special moments with the grandkids that week. When they returned on Saturday, he spent quality time with his son, and then D and DeWayne had a great Sunday, lounging around the house. Just the two fo them. On Monday morning, he left for work at the usual time, fine as could be. A call came an hour later that he had died of a heartattack. He dropped to the ground right inside the door of his office. We are so very sad that we didn't try harder to make contact earlier. In turn, THEY had tried to find us too. The last number they had for us was at our old house-- years ago. When they called, it was a non working number. Seems they called information, and were given the number of my brother-in-law instead of us... they left two messages on his machine, but we were never told. Sad. D has recently re- married and is raising another family---- 10, 12 and 17. Their mother died 7 years ago. She said that they need her as much as she needs them. <tears> She is going to be visiting her parents in Indiana next month-- only 3 hour drive for us. We are hoping to meet and reconnect. D said that she felt as peace with DeWayne's passing, because the last week had been such a blessing. Time spent with family- loving and being loved. She said to me " Lori- you never know what will happen when someone you love walks out the door, or when they hang up the phone" Make sure you always remember that. I hope I do. |
