i've been very production with fabric remnants, old towels, old sheets, prefold flat diapers and my sewing machine i've made shoes, and wipes (both fleece the big ones and terry the little ones) bibs and even a few taggy toys ( not in the picture ) i wanted to use cloth diaper on my son 4 years ago but as i was running the family B&B i found i could not keep up with the washing for the B&B and the diapers so to disposable we went. but i don't work anymore so i have no excuse as isaac will be at preschool and hubbys work uniform is sent to the laundry. i bought a pack of flat diaper 12 for $12 but decided they were not very daddy friendly so cut them up into fitted shapes elasticated the legs and backed them with funky baby prints. i refused to pay more than $2-$3 a yard for the material i got most as remnants in he cut off bin. i also have a quilted play mat all cut out and ready sewing i will stuff the edges of that one to prevent rolling off and add loops of ribbon to link toys onto with those plastic baby rings (i've got some left from isaac. i hope you like my creations the green pile on the left is the fited sheet i made for the crib as the ones that came with the bedding set need replacing after being lent to a friend for 2 years. i am just waiting for picture approval and then i will add the mto the post thank for looking zoe and einy ( who mummy made his own baby cube after he tried to steal the babys one) |

thats great. You save money, have the joy of making these things, and it makes you feel good too. |
the wash cloths have already been used. i stopped buying baby wipes and a 3 nearly 4 year old gets really grubby, even hubby asked if i had one in my bag the other day ( amittedly he wanted to dry a bench at disney with it but hey it was useful)

Very creative. I can't sew very well, have a problem keeping seams even and straight, maybe because my mind is skewed . I want to practice and make some little things after we move. Don't have fabric around here really, except the little bit of over priced stuff at a certain big name discount store (rhymes with bal-mart, lol). Are you sure that twelve diapers will be enough? Speaking from recent experience, we go through more than one at a diaper change because someone likes to pee or poo as soon as we stick the fresh one under her..... |
i've got 12 of a british make ( tots bots) they are fitted diapers in lovely colours plus the 12 i've adapted and the muslin squares my mum sent me ( got 12 they good for newborn diapers) i should be ok if i wash evey 1-2 days plus i made the patern from my tots bots which is he birth to potty size so they should be all i need
the adapted ones only take me about 6-10 mins to do (sewing is my thing i can't knit or crochet to save my life) so i can always whip up some more and you can find loads of patterns online. i've got about 60 newborn disposable i got with free stuff in the uk which i will use till they are gone and my mum is bring me some eco disposables with her when she flies over ( which i will use for emergencies and when other people are baby sitting) |
Good golly, that is awesome!!! I always wished my mom knew how to do stuff like that ...and would teach me. All of the stuff looks like top quality stuff I'd buy! |
Beautiful work. Your baby is very lucky. |
My goodness there absolutely lovely Zoe you are so clever and they are gorgeous. |
Wow - it all looks terrific. Definitely like something I'd pay for in the store. Mostly I'm inpressed with your committment to going GREEN!! |
Congrats on your handy work. I love the booties. You did such a nice job--bet you could sell some of those at a fancy baby boutique! |
Very cute |
Your little one will be well fitted out with your lovely sewing |
thank you for your kind words.
my mum doesn't sew actually it my dad that sews his grandmother was seamstress. i would sell my bits n piece but i don't want to loose the joy i get from making them for myself and friends i made my sister in law a crib sized tagged blanket, bib and tagged stroller toys. as i said i can't knit or crochet but my mother in law does so she knitting me a pram blanket i get a look a pleasure knowing that the wash cloths only cost about 20 cents each to make and the bibs about 50 cents each. i will post picture of my quilted play mat when i've finished it. zoe and einy |
They look great!
Nice work and they will be so handy to use. |
Cute stuff for a little one! |
They are gorgeous.
Well done. I don't have the patience to make anything so I am in awe of people who do. I see the start of a very profitable business! |
