So we are in the process of replacing all the flooring on the main level of our home with RED OAK. posted some pics on a DIY website I frequent. Didnt even notice at the end of the hallway was ADDIE Posing for the picture. http://www.diychatroom.com/f49/new-wood-flooring-41523/

What a beautiful job you've done!!!! My goodness!

Can I ask impolite questions? Feel free to say "No!"

How much did a project of 1100 sq ft like that cost, and how much would it have cost to have someone else (a pro, but you did pro-like work!) do it for you?

PS have you seen the "repair-place" link at the bottom of every page? :D
I think you did a great job!!! Wish we knew how to do stuff like that. Our projects tend to turn into bigger messes!
NO None of your dang business!
That's payback for your April Fools joke. ALTHOUGH very fUNNY!

We got a great deal doing it ourselves. I have done some small repair jobs and Hardwood floor refinishing in the past so it wasnt to scary. The wife and kids are a big help. The dogs are a little out of place while this is going on.

We ended up getting the flooring unfinished on sale. We will install it, Sand it, Stain it, Then aplly 4 coats of Poly-urethene to finish it all off.

The flooring and Materials to finish is right at $2000.

When we took up the old flooring we discovered the front door had been leaking moisture. Well upon further inspection the door frame was literally crumbling under the Aluminum wrap around it. The subfloor was discolored and seemed secure while we were walking back and forth on it. Then Addie the small sheepdog came in from outside and put a paw right through the subfloor.
So we tore that. The door was quoted at $2200 + tax. Im an too cheap to pay that so I scrounged the internet and found the same door brand new someone had listed on ebay 60 miles from me. Got it for under $600. it is beautiful! I love a great deal!
So door and all new solid oak flooring is about a month of inconvenience and about $3000 for supplies food and drink for the helpers.

It would be around $7000 to have someone come in and install prefinished flooring plus the door would be $2200 + install. So what we are doing for $3000 would be pretty close to $10,000 and not of gotten done.!
Amazing!

OK, now come live here for a while.... free room to anyone wanting and able to do such fine carpentry!
Simply WOW! 8O
Oh very nice! My husband and I are like you and always do things ourselves. Looks great!
Wow that is beautiful. Post some pics when its all finished. I love glossy wooden floors. The inset work that you did is amazing.
Addie could be the red oak flooring dog. After all Dulux have them.
Beautiful floor and beautiful sheepie.
Very nice!!! My Dad is so handy in these area's, and always into a project, so I know what hard work you've put into this beautiful floor!
Looks great, very nice work. OES at end of hall priceless!
It looks awesome. I love the detail around the edges.

And lovely model Addie showing off the true beauty of the floors.

Does she like them?
WOW. 8O

Fantastic. I love your floor.
WOW! What a great job.
Very nice. Please post the "after" pictures as well. :D
Thank You everyone for your encouragement. This has been a long weekend. Got the remaining flooring installed. Taped and stained all the design areas. then gave the remaining floor a "Natural" Stain to tie it all together.

Once it dried you could hardly see the design areas :( Even though the stain is darker "Early American".

I took the day off work so I could play with it some more. I am gonna restain the design and borders darker. The taping is monotonous! Hindsight I should of used Walnut or a different species for the borders/designs to make them POP

Wish me luck. My Body is KILLING ME! But the End is in sight.

When we started we originally said as long as the house is back in order by Sheepalooza we'll be fine. Well we are ahead of schedule on that so an extra day or 2 now to get the right look will be worth it.

Ughh I got to call the chiropractor!
Thanks again for all the encouragement last week

Wow! The floor looks amazing even without the final results....We are hoping to tear up the flooring in our den/kitchen this fall and are torn between wood or tile. Having helped my brother install wood flooring in his home, I am dreading the DIY project, but knowing my fiance that is the way we'll go!
Congrats on a job well done, I would have a cold beverage and some advil to celebrate!
they dont recommend the cold beverages with advil which is EXACTLY why i had to do it.

nope seriously only DIET coke until the project is DONE. I AM SO SORE!

I just posted some more pics at http://www.diychatroom.com/f49/new-wood ... post256608

Hopefully the poly ties it all together. one draw back is the bedrooms are on the 2nd story so when I POLY I really have to plan evrything or kids/dogs might get trapped upstairs until POLY dries. CRAZINESS

I did put up a long extension ladder so we do have access to the second floor if need be. BUT these crazy sheepdogs wont even go up 1 rung of the ladder.

thanks again everyone for the comments it keeps us going. THIS WEEKEND THEY WILL BE SHINING!
Looking good!

Time to treat yourself to a massage when this is done. :D
Well we are almost done. :D Just finishing up the baseboards etc. The dogs seem to like it fine. They snuck into a few of the pictures.

Well here is our hardwood floor project nearing completion

http://www.diychatroom.com/f49/new-wood-flooring-41523/

looking back and now that i can move, it was a fun project and we are pleased with the final results
I really like it!
Beautiful work, I am very impressed!
Very nice 8)
Wow!! :o That looks positively beautiful!! I can't believe you did all of that yourselves. Bravo!! You've got the two cutest models ever used in hardwood flooring. That could definitely be an advertisement! :D
Wow! It's beautiful. I really like that design in the middle of the floor. Very cool. And it'll be so nice to have beautiful floors and think every time you see them, I did this myself!

I agree!
The dogs look quite pleased to be models as well.
i think the dogs are gonna be disappointed once the rest of the furniture is in place.

Right now it is a free for all and the living room is their wide open playpen. crazy dogs!!

They would be a good advertisement to see how durable the floors hold up to their rough housing.

I cant believe it is done. Origninally we said we would be done for sheepiepalloza. Now I think I have time for another "project" Hmmmmm???
Gorgeous! Amazing workmanship, be proud, very, very proud. :clappurple:
