Squatting to pee every 2 minutes- drops coming out- some slight blood. Mark |
|
Poor baby. Not only does the urine need to be tested for bacterial infection, but also proclivity for kidney stones, that is the urine pH. So I'd avoid giving anything like Vit C to lover pH until you get a accurate reading.
If she's really uncomfortable, you may have to seek an emergency vet. You don't want the urine to back up and damage the kidneys. |
Keep her hydrated and monitor her pulse and temperature.
UTI's can go systemic (into the bloodstream) and be very dangerous. Even fatal. |
Went to emergency vet- all is good. She is resting and I will follow up tomorrow with regular vet. She also has an ear infection! Sheesh!
Poor little girl. |
Mark I would take her in tonight to an emergency vet if you have one near you otherwise you are in for a long worrying night with her.
Blood in the urine and squatting all the time might be worthwhile going to the emergency centre tonight rather then waiting to see your vet tomorrow morning. Poor stella, also talk to the vet about cranberries (you can get them in tablet form from a health food shop) if that is worthwhile supplementing her in the future with that to support her Urinary track. Some people swear by Cranberries as a natural supplement to help support the UT system. Hope she is on the mend soon. |
Ooops time zone difference, glad you took her in sending hugs for stella |
Poor Stella!
I hope she feels better soon! Please give her an extra rub for me. Behind her right ear, please. |
Poor Stella! Hope she's starting to feel a bit better. I remember when Drez had a UTI - poor girl whimpered when she peed. Not fun knowing there's nothing you can do, short of a vet visit. |
Good, faster the antibiotics start working the less chance of serious problems. Bummer about the ear, but don't discount allergies, such as to something in her food, that is leaving her open for infections. Systemic distress can show up in many forms.
Poor Stella, uncomfortable at both ends. |
Awww poor sweet Stella. I'm glad you were able to take her in and get her started on the antibiotics. Hope she feels better soon. |
Ahh, so sorry to hear about Stella...a double wammy to her. My Aussie, China just delt with a UTI a few months ago. With the right meds they bounce back quickly.
Hugs to Stella. |
Poor baby. Glad you were able to get her to the emergency vet and get her started on antibiotics quickly. How is she doing today? |
Thanks everyone- she is doing muchh better. She even wanted to play a bit tonight. She gets hit so hard with these infections- I'm going to have to start getting urine checks every 3 months to make sure she doesn't get this bad again. |
Poor Stella...glad she is getting better Mark! |
Mark still say you should look into Cranberry supplementation in her diet to see if it will help ward off the possibility of re-occuring UTI problems. |
That's a good idea, Lisa. It works wonders in people. Glad she's feeling better, Mark! |
YES Cranberries! I am checking in to that thanks |
Awww Poor Stella Hope she is feeling much better!!! give her a hug from us |

I kept Glacier on this for several years, now she gets Vit C. So far, UTI's are very rare for her where once they were common. (they stopped shipping the Berry Balance to NM which is why I quit) |
