This is more of a training question then anything else, so I putting it here, for lack of a more creative place! So I finally purchased The Dog Listener: Learn How to Communicate with Your Dog for Willing Cooperation, by Jan Fennell per everyone's advice. I love, love, LOVE this book!!!!! A definite must read for any current or would be dog owner. I've already convinced 2 of my co-workers to read my copy once I'm done. So here's my question. Has anyone had any experience with taking this training/lifestyle, and applies it towards teaching higher level obediance or agility exercises? Obviously, without a dog, I don't have any experience with this and not enough knowledge of agility or obediance to know what would/would not work. I really appreciate anyone's thoughts! Karen |

Karen,
I haven't had personal experience - but I know that this is a great training method for advanced obedience and agility. So much of this (agility and obedience) is the communication and the relationship between the dog and owner. Look into her website - maybe you could ask about it further... http://www.janfennellthedoglistener.com/index.htm Kristen |
I took a quick peek but didn't really see anything off the bat. Here's another question- how do you combine Amichien with good puppy classes, etc- without wrecking your primary system? Is there a way to blend in an Amichien lifestyle when bringing a puppy in to a new training class?

Iriskmj,
Thanks for bringing this up. I love the book as well and recommend it to anyone who will listen. My Question: HAS ANYONE SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED THE METHODOLOGIES AS THEY APPLY TO VERY YOUNG PUPPIES? I read this book prior to the arrival of Tigerlily and feel that I understand the principals well. I feel that we have had a good degree of success establishing my role as Alpha. That said, putting it all into practice seems, at times, challenging. |
