Anyway, using a 3 3/4 blade, I proceeded to clip him. It's amazingly hard to keep it exactly even when you're actually leaving hair-- and totally inexperienced in clipping a dog down! When my breeder did it the first time, she made it look so easy. I thought, I'll knock this out in an hour. Yeah, right, needless to say, I'm still touching up two days later. I'm posting this half to whine and the other half to give kudos to everyone who does it well. It's a tougher job than I thought! |

WHine away! I did Morgan with that blade for the first time a few weeks ago - I trimmed for three days and then decided we would do better the next time around |
Pictures??? |
we have got a major problem Summer hates the clippers! We are getting them out once a day and just let her get used to the feel of them, but she is so matted. We might have to resort to scissors! |
We tried the 3 3/4 blade, wouldn't cut. Used the 5 with the 7 or 10 used around the feet. He wasn't very cooperative, kept trying to hide his legs by laying on them. Very, very choppy job. Will go back over him after we get past this predicted snow tonight. Boy dogs and Tshirts don't work well unless you cut an area for pee.

Poor fat, fat, fatty pants. I feel biscuit reduction coming up on Clyde's future. Don't feel bad. I am always doing touch ups on Edgar when I shave him. Its frustrating and I wish I was one of those who could make it look easy. |

He's never really into pics right away after a clip. He wouldn't move from between the couch and table. Fatty Fatty Fat Pants got on the scale at the vet today too, by the way. Let's just say his waist size is at an all time high. GULP! |
Clyde looks great compared to Dutch who I half shaved today.. have to do her feet and face yet and I have not a clue on what I doing |
You guys...........haven"t you been listening To get a "non-choppy" look you have to: brush out, shave, bathe, dry & shave again. Oh the boldness of the young "Shave 'em down in an hour" How I wish that were possible! |
Clydes face says it all. He doesn't like being shaved does he? I think from that picture though you look as though you have done a good job! |
That is definitely a "poor pitiful Clyde" picture....LOL
It looks good so far. I agree, with all the puppy stuff going on, it will make life a lot easier. |
I tried a couple of times, and managed to do an ok job once with Bree, but usually can't be bothered and just shave them down with a #10 blade and be done with it. I'll get that cute have a little bit of coat look in a month or so anyway LOL |
eeekers this isn't encouraging at all, I am suffering with Archies coat (coat is a loose description for the uneven matt generator!) I was toying with the idea of giving in and getting clippers, I am not so sure now
can you get 2 inch combs for clipppers I reckon I may end up peeling him otherwise Maybe I should try a longish scissoring? |
Poor Clyde. Naked and fat for all the world to see. |
That has got to be the most pitiful Clyde picture EVER. |
i dont think he looks bad at all jill! heck, the 3 3/4 blade is a lot cleaner looking than using a 10 with a guard...at least panda no longer has stripes.
i just shave panda down too using that same blade (thanks for the recommendation last yr).... the secret, i think, is not to cut too much hair off of the ears...i go lightly over the ears then scissor the bottom....fluffier ears give them more of the puppy look..... |

I did do that! He would've itched like crazy without the bath. I was just hoping the actual shaving would take an hour the first time. I am slow. |
Oh poor baby. |
*Update*
After being away from home for a couple of days (me, not Clyde), much like a person's haircut, Clyde's haircut looks much better. he just needed a couple of days for it to settle down. He's Clyde again. |
So are you saying I should go to a spa hotel for a few days and then come home? Please say yes, please say yes and I'll show this to my husband! LOL |

I don't know if the two day magic works if you go to a spa. I was at a dog show so I think the dog show fairies helped me. |
I could do a dog show. They have hotels at those. LOL |
Clyde looks pretty pitiful in that picture. I'm glad he's coming into his own again, though. Poor fellow.
I have say that I have NEVER sucessfully gotten my #4 blade to work. Ever. Someday I will have an experienced person show me what I'm doing wrong. I can use the #10 and shave them down beautifully and evenly. But, to try to leave some coat - forget about it. So, if you got him cut down at all using your 3 3/4 blade, I say BRAVO!! |
oh my poor clyde give him a treat for hanging in there |
Coincidentally, I also just attempted my first shave.
It was my 17 month pup's first shave ever. It took about two weeks, but I think I'm finished, even though I'm not super happy with the results. My pup is afraid of the clipper. It took lots of persistence and you could tell it was at times traumatic for him. But eventually he let me get the whole back, butt, chest and upper legs. The face, ears and lower legs had to be scissored, no way he was going to allow the buzzer near those areas. So it looks choppy there. How long will it take for these parts to even out? |
