How did he manage this

Saturday morning Obe woke up at 5a.m. Real early for Saturday but that is our normal time to get up during the week. So I cant complain too much. I let him out he goes and comes back in. Looks at food bowl and I said back to bed, too early. We both go back to sleep.

I woke at 7 and saw him in the door way to the bedroom when I opened my eyes. I said good morning bud and he got his usual excited, oh let me come say good morning. Only upon standing he fell and could not support weight on his rear. His back left leg was just dangling, so to speak. He kept trying to stand and just could not get his balance. So I freak, especially since my eye have only been open for maybe 15 seconds. Thinking to myself, he walked outside at 5, two hours later he cant stand what is going on.

I look at his paw, maybe something stuck in between pads. nothing there. We manage to get to the kitchen and he looks at food bowl. So I feed him. He stands on three legs and will not put in weight on his left back leg. Call vet they said to bring him in. Start the truck and move it to the other drive easier to carry Obe to truck. Go to start truck after moving it and nothing. Turns over but wont start. I become very MAD. I see red, even though colorblind. Tara comes out and asks what is wrong? I explain events and before I'm done, we are loaded up in her car with dog on way to vet.

Get to vet, they look him over check leg. Hip feels fine, knee feels fine, oh the ankle. Very sore to touch, and very swollen. Not broken, nothing feels out of place etc. Somehow between 5-7a.m. Obe managed to twist his ankle inside the house. How I have no clue. Single story house, no steps have no clue what he did.

Today he still has slight limp but it is felling much better. Vet said I should try and keep him clam for 10 days... no running, playing, jumping. ummm you do know that this is an OES right???? I just laughed and said those pain pills better be good. Had $81 in pocket, bill was $80.80 cents.

What an eventful Saturday morning. Obe dont scare me like that again. Please! To open my eyes and see him just fall, try to get up and fall again was too much and not the best way to start a day off.

Oh no! :(

That is indeed a mystery. Especially since you know he was fine at 5am.
I hope Obe gets better quickly - for all your sakes.
Good luck in keeping him calm.... :D
Oh Shon, I would be beside myself. I am so glad
he is ok. With 2 new ones myself I feel your pain.
I hope Obe is feeling better soon. I had a scare similar to that a few weeks ago with Asia. She came into my bedroom as I was getting up and the inside of her eye was so swollen it looked like the socket was going "inside out." We called the vet and got in right away...she had gotten either stung or bitten by a bug in her eye. She healed quickly with the right treatment. Really not the way you want to wake up in the morning.

Good luck with Obe....
so glad to hear it was not a major break but i sure you must have been crazy , now the hard part comes keeping him calm .. ya right!!
Poor Obe! So glad it was a sprain and not a break, though. The best of the worst case scenarios. Big hugs to the big boy, and I had to laugh at the vet's suggestion to keep him calm - yeah right! Good luck!
So Shon, did the vet give Obe any pain pills too? ;)

Hope the ankle gets better soon.

We had this going on for a while with our first guy, suddenly he'd have a twisted front paw. Happened 3 or 4 times at least. We never saw it happen, but we think he had started falling down the stairs, as after a while he became petrified of them. (He was suffering from hind quarters issues).
Oh poor Obe. I guess he didn't like your suggestion of going back to sleep.

So glad your neighbor was there to help. Its great to have nice and helpful neighbors.

Hope he's back to himself soon...Obe behave yourself! Its not nice to scare Dad like that FIRST thing in the morning!!!
Poor Obe....hope he feels better.

Be careful if he is on pain meds as
he will feel better and want to do
more that he should!
(easy to re injure!)

Hugs to the Obe man!
Poor Obe. Glad you came home with 20 cents
How scary Shon!!! I am glad Obe is going to be ok. Nigel will get up from time to time and hop on 3 legs, but if he is laying down wrong a foot will fall asleep. It scared the heck out of me the first time it happened...but it was just pins and needles for him.

I hope he recovers 100% soon.
Hope Obe gets better real soon.
What a terrible scare for you Shon!!
Know what you mean the vet said keep Tiggy quiet for 2 weeks post spey. Hah, hah, next morning she jumped the couch to run and chest butt the pantry door for her breakfast. 8O
My vet took her off pain meds and put her on ACP (I think) for one week just to help keep her a bit calm.
Doggies vary in their injury drama, some are real stoic and others let you know life is just miserable. Best to let the vet decide what's up until you learn your dog's drama quotient. How wonderful your vet took Obe immediately.

My most recent 3 legged incident was last week, Harry broke off one of his rear toe nails. It looks painful! Within 24 hours he was putting limited weight upon it, but even now he won't sneak onto the bed with me.  Good news for me.
Poor thing. Hope it gets better soon and I agree... very strange how it happened!
Well wishes to you Obe! Hope you are better soon!
Wow what a scare and also the truck would not start HECK 8O

Get better soon Obe, if ever a next time make it later in the day Obe so daddy does not get such a morning start to his day.
Poor Obe. Hope he is better soon.

Good luck on keeping him calm for ten days. Just had to do this with George and he was climbing the walls by day 5.

Big Hugs to Obe
Poor Obe, and what a shock first thing in the morning. Maybe he slept so heavily he didn't notice it was twisted in a funny position. Hooray for Tara!
poor Obe :ghug: hope you get better real soon.... Shon hope your day got better :)
