Housetraining going well except for when she only stares

       We can't seem to explain to chiquita that she has to bark at the door if we are in the other room. We make it a practice to stay with her if she happens to wander. But sometimes that little rascal is soooo sneaky  8O  Most of the time when she needs to go she barks or bangs the door with her foot. GREAT! But occasionally she just stares at the door gets impatient and then pees in front of it.

Wondering if a bell might be a good idea? What do you all make of it? Think it's worth the training to add a bell?

None of mine bark or do anything audible so we started using the bells with Clyde. Bells are super easy to train to use. The hardest part is keeping her from ringing them once she realizes that ringing the bell gets her outside!
We had the same problem with Luna; she'd stare at us (not the door) for 30 seconds, and if we missed it, she'd go to the door and pee there.

Once we got the bell, it was about a day before she figured it out. And yes, there is the risk of them over-ringing to say "I want to go out!" even when they don't have to pee. But my girls did that for a while, and then seemed to stop.
my big dogs have always done this "look into my eyes Mum! cant you see what I am thinking? Look harder Mum! Gods sake I have got my legs crossed dont that tell you anything?"

Yorkies just stand at the door and yap!
Tiggy is the same, she gets up, sort of pauses near me as she walks past then stands at the door and stares at me. She's better at hanging on now but she used to walk two feet away from the door and pee. Happened a lot in the mornings when I'd be glued to my laptop on hanging here on the forum. :D

I forgot all about the bell as an option, and not sure if I'd use it. My dalmo drives me nuts bashing at the door with his paw. He hates the cold so all summer he kept asking to go out to lie in the sun and escape the air con. On a 45c day he'd be back 10 minutes later bashing to get back in, grrrrrrr

Sounds like a bell is your best option, as sheepies must not be loud in their demanding.
The bells worked for Simon. Its worth a try.
Maggie the coonhound has evolved in her training. This is just pee however - she NEVER pooped in the house.

1. When we got her she had lived chained outside, so she just peed wherever and never even tried to hide it.
2. Then she learned it was wrong, but went behind furniture, so you could here the pee hit the ground.
3. Then she walked to the door and stared at either it, or us, if we were in eye shot.
4. Now, her current mode is to paw at the door - and pull the curtain (it's a french door) off the hooks....
