Welcome to the forum..there are many people here who will be able to give you some ideas, suggestions, support.
I am no expert, but I think noise sensitivity is a breed problem. I know many OES's who are afraid of the things you have mentioned. Have you contacted your breeder about this? Is the mother and father of Max the same way? Have you had Max in for a vet exam and have you asked your vet about this? Sometimes there are physical reasons for this. Maybe contacting a behaviourist to evaluate Max's problem and give you direction on how to desensitive him. I am sure other members will chime in with their comments...hang in there, Max is still young so I am sure he can be helped with the correct method. |

Sorry you're having this problem. Just wanted to jump in and welcome you to the community! |
First off, Welcome!
My Luna is also sensitive to the load "white" noises (Vacuume, hair dryer, blender, etc.) Anytime I tried to dry my hair, she would loose it and run a muck up and down the house. What I did, was I would leave the hair dyer (I also did this with the vacuum - laid it down) on the floor when I wasn't using it. This way she can sniff and see it and know it wasn't doing any harm to her. THen I would use the dryer behind a closed door. She would still get pretty intense when she heard the sound, but she'd calm down in 5-10 minutes or so. Eventually, once she calmed down from just hearing the dryer go off, I opened the door so she could see that I was using the dryer and it wasn't attacking her. It took some time, but her sensitvity to loud "white" noises is much better. Occasionally she'll take one lunge at the object if you catch her off guard, but it's much better than it once was. I just assumed most dogs hate loud noises like that. My two dogs growing up intensely hated the vacuum cleaner. Anyways, I hope this helps! |
Thank you for welcoming me to oes.org. All suggestions are deeply appreciated. |
My other sheepdog Barkus was afraid of the sound of trains and also rakes and buckets. He came from a breeder in AK and we never knew why he had this fears but he did out grow them once he got used to his home. |
