Is the bowl a shiney steel one? maybe the reflections disturb him? |
Weird, Winston went through a phase exactly like that about 6 months ago. If we took it out of the bowl and put it on the floor in front of him, he'd eat it all. Eventually he went back to eating from his bowl - I'd say over a period of 6-8 weeks.
He's our old guy too. I don't know why he started but I was worried it was a bad sign so I did whatever I could to get him to eat, and then it was back to normal. |
Could it be the smell? Are you washing it in a different dish soap now than before? Or maybe he can't judge the height of the bowl if it is in a raised feeder. |
It could be a bit of Senility (doggie Dementia) Kelsey had that at times and failing sight contributed to it as well.
How is Lukes sight, any signs of that diminshing with age? If so might be part of the problem with the bowl and why he is happier eating with it spread out on the towel. Kelsey use to struggle up and stand facing the wall for ages as to say I got up but what for? She was a little bit senile with age, plus the sight too and often had to be reminded what she wanted to do, eat, drink, I tapped the bowl so she knew where it was even though always in the same spot for 14 years, where is the back door, she often forgot where it was, outside dont forget to potty etc.. |
