I put Bentley in a collar one size too big, and this has resulted in no neck mats! I also bought him a fairly expensive collar--all leather from Coach.com
a leather goods/purse web site and it doesn't bleed and it's red. I think some of the less expensive ones are just "painted" colors--so they bleed. A neutral colored rolled collar a size too big can also work well. |
Thank you, I finally put Max in a rolled collar, I had never heard of these before. I am so happy with this collar that I had to buy one for my border collie, Junior, too. I got mine from Dr. Foster's, and it is the softest leather that I have ever felt. |

I have had the same problem with collars and came up with a similar "fix". I bought an adjustable nylon collar and adjusted to hang like a necklace, fairly loose.
She's only wiggled out once on a walk, so I don't even tighten it up then, unless she is in one of those "moods". But I would like a collar that doesn't affect her coat at all. I think I will go look up one of those rolled collars ... Thanks! |
We keep our sheepies inside except for walks and playtime outside. We bought the nylon collars with the snap buckle and just take it off of them when we come back in. Jack and Annabelle know when they see thier collars and leashes that it's playtime. I have heard a lot of good things about the rolled leather collars being good for the longer hair breeds. If I wasn't blessed enough to stay home and take care of my 4 kids (2 human ones and 2 sheepies) I think I would choose the rolled leather. |
