I backed up and got behind Baley and he immediately moved in a circle and got behind me. In the meantime I did not hear any noise outside the bedroom door so I decided to go out of the bedroom and see what was going on. I grabbed a big flashlight (like that was going to protect me) I didn't really need the light--and began walking slowly out the door and down the hall. I would take a step and Baley would take a step behind me --I would stop and he would peer around my leg and then back up. This little dance went on all the way down the hall--through the family room--kitchen and the to the side door. Baley stayed right BEHIND me the whole journey and Baxter would not budge from his spot in the bedroom. As it turns out--it appears that the wind blew the door open--it was locked but maybe not completely closed---I don't know-- There was no sign of anyone around, so I closed the door and when I did the phone rang--and Baley took off running back to the bedroom. It was the alarm company on the phone--just making sure that we were ok-- When I returned to the bedroom Baley was laying on the floor with his head under the bed and the rest of his 110 pound body exposed for the world to see--Baxter had not moved and the cats were sleeping peacefully on the bed! I did not sleep much the rest of the night--between being a bit scared and totally amused by my "protectors"--it was a long night-- I have chuckled all day thinking of what a fun video it would have been if someone had been able to tape "the walk"--me in front and my 110 pound protector right BEHIND me all the way--periodically peering around my legs to find the intruder-- The next time they bark furiously when someone rings the doorbell--yeah right--your really tough guys- I will still pretend that they are my "watchdogs"! |

Oh too funny. I wish there was a photo of Baley with his head under the bed and his butt sticking right out there. |

Thats what I saw too Glad you are OK. |
I loved your story! Like others, all I was doing was trying to picture your dog under the bed. Definitely would have won money if you could have videotaped it!!! It reminded me when I ran into a 7' poster of Michael Jordan one night while Mr. J was deployed. I also stayed up all night. |
Loved your story. I'm sorry about your sleepless night. Great "brain photos". lol |
Sorry for the scare and loss of sleep, but it is funny.
My GSD puppy Jenny did something similar. I was just graduated from college, and lived out in the country on the poultry farm that I was the manager of. I was in bed asleep, and someone quietly knocked at my house door. Then the footsteps came in through the kitchen. My pup was terrified and jumped up on the bed with me and about squished me trying to hide....... Turned out it was my roommate's BF tiptoeing through and didn't want to wake me up. |
what a funny story i am sure at the time it was not.. glad all of u are ok yes why dp are sheepies bark at all the wrong times!!! |
I wonder if they are all the same. Mine will bark thats all.... we came up our stairs one nite the dogs carry on barking, then they stop WE WERE louder that nite trying to get them to back off before opening the basement door. When we got there Sami running down the hall Blue peed on he kitchen floor. When they knew it was us, Then they were all over us. |
